Round one is here. 62 years of albums with 2 convenient ties. What album will come out on top? For this matchup, we start with: (29) Nirvana - Nevermind vs. (36) Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
as much as I love Dylan, it's a shame this is his only one that moved on. not one of my favorites of his. also, duh, it's nevermind, though if it were against blonde on blonde my vote would go to bob
Wow I didn't realize this was the only Dylan that won its year, that's crazy. But yeah, it's Nevermind between these two.
the beatles ran the gauntlet in the 60s, unfortunately, so we’re missing a bunch of GOAT-tier albums by top artists
I'll go for Bob. Not my favorite album of his either, but it's still a tremendous showcase of songwriting, and has some of my very favorite Dylan tunes ("Girl from the North Country," "Don't Think Twice..."). Nevermind is obviously hugely significant, but neither that album nor that band have ever quite hit "love" for me.
Gotta be Dylan for me. Not my favorite of his but I've never really gotten that into Nirvana and if this is the only chance to vote for Bob I'm gonna take it. And not being his best is hardly an insult, Freewheelin' is still an incredible album in it's own right.
this site never ceases to puzzle me. dylan is my second favorite artist ever lol but this is baffling
I listen to Bob way more than Nirvana, but it’s the body of work that matters. I don’t think any single album would top Nevermind. Maybe Blood On The Tracks, maybe Christmas In The Heart
I think for folks into writing music Kurt’s sense for harmony is kinda peerless in rock music. Stuff like the Smells Like Teen Spirit verse melody, On A Plain, how the Drain You verse ends on a gorgeous Bb over the Bm, pretty much every song on that album is a fuckin feat of incredible composition
Yeah even ignoring its legacy, Nevermind is one of the best pop rock albums ever imo. Cobain couldn’t help but write hooks
i mean i think it has a very good shot, at least more so than about 15 of the albums ahead of it in seeding
