Round one is here. 62 years of albums with 2 convenient ties. What album will come out on top? NOTICE: PLEASE DO NOT VOTE UNLESS YOU'VE HEARD BOTH ALBUMS. STOP DOING THIS SHIT. For this matchup, we start with: (23) Blink-182 - Blink-182 vs. (42) Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Same. And to elaborate, there are absolutely blink 182 albums (maybe just album, but possibly two) I’d vote for over aeroplane, but s/t is not one of them. It’s solid but imo has always gotten too much credit for being “the one where they tried.”
Pretty much how I feel. There's a lot of songs I love on blink s/t but I'd be struggling harder with this vote if it was between TAYPAJ or Enema
Yeah, I really like parts of the Blink album, but I think it gets a little too much credit for what it actually is. Whereas NMH, I really like the songs and struggle with the vocals, but can get onboard with the praise a little more.
I remember trying with Aeroplane multiple times in high school and am legitimately not sure I ever made it through. Pretty much ignored it since then, but surprisingly excited to give it another shot now after so much time has passed
Golden Hour, On the Beach and Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music lost and one of these two is going to make it. The cruelty of objectivity. Blink, I guess.
I absolutely loved In the Aeroplane at one point and there are moments of greatness on it for sure. It just hasn’t stuck with me as much as time has gone on, not entirely because of the vocals (there’s as many songs where they’re a strength as there are where they’re a weakness imo), but because when I let go of the mystique around it it feels more like a collection of good songs with a couple excellent ones than the other way around. Another one where my favorite song might legitimately be a bside - Engine.
Um, Ray lost to The Cure and their best album, Neil lost to Weezer and their cult classic, and Kacey lost to The Beatles. I totally get your sentiment, but at least those losses make some sense. Things are just gonna get more wild from here.
Ray, not Stevie. Other blind guy. I'm just saying I feel like some of the albums that broke our hearts in losing would have run away with this matchup.
Oh shit my bad lol I’ll fix it. And I totally feel you there, some of these initial matchups have been tough for sure, and the fun is just starting!
I mean, Kacey lost to the sixth best Beatles album in the bracket, I think it's ok to be upset about that one.
