Round of 64: (2) Kanye West - MBDTF vs. (63) Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher Bracket • Page 3

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by phaynes12, Aug 1, 2022.

  1. I'd extend it to graduation, Yeezus, and even TLOP. There's just a reason that music meant (and sometimes still means) so much to me, especially at that time. The only media that has had a similar impact on my actual personal anxiety has been The Sopranos lol

Don’t worry everybody, I got “So Appalled” and Gorgeous confused. I don’t like So Appalled, but I do still think Gorgeous should flip spots with Power.

ghostwrite may have been a overstatement given that he’s credited but the “rumor” (quotes because I think it’s fuzzy if it’s a rumor or theory) was Rhymefest wrote the majority of it

I think Kanye is similar to Dr Dre in the sense that they don't admit or deny that other rappers wrote their verses.

Fwiw that was the second post I made in here, my initial one being where I briefly detailed my emotional connection to Punisher and why I voted for it due to the feeling it gives me and the lack of that I have for MBDTF. We’re on the same page

Also fwiw my name is Trevor, we post in multiple threads together and have in the nearly 15 years I’ve been around this community, where my name has always literally been in my username lol. I know we’re not close Chris but come on!

Went with MBDTF because Phoebe doesn’t have any lyrics about reupholstering pussy

You clearly haven't listened to the pregap Punisher bonus track.

I am abnormally prone to nostalgia, but boy I will never have any for pregap track. A trend that should stay dead like 8 tracks.

I don't remember encountering many of them, but I do recall being pissed that I couldn't get iTunes to rip the pregap from Dashboard Confessional's Dusk and Summer. I believe I eventually found it in the AP.net b-sides thread!

I go back and forth every few years, but regardless of it being a masterpiece or not, I now think it is the real beginning of Kanye’s transformation into who we is now

I don’t disagree personally, but it was perceived as a pretty big move back then in rap media

Yeah, my whole body felt like it had been electrified when I first heard that song. I remember specifically where I was, getting on the subway in West Philly as that beat dropped, from laughing at the verses to being worried about him in the bridge and just having the overwhelming sense of "oh my god he DID it"... so rare in a song.

I voted for Punisher because the emotional throughline of those songs was so important to me in the pandemic, but MBDTF is about as obvious of a masterpiece as has existed in the last few decades and is the single greatest comeback punch in modern music.

They're both my #1 albums of their respective years, this has been the hardest matchup yet.

MBDTF is a comeback album? Because of 808s?

Yeah…808’s was too good for it’s follow up to be considered a comeback.
