idk if i've listened to punisher since the month it came out, what's the song to revisit here

yeah, that was decent. i like the strings and little flourishes she adds to stuff. idk. this never just really clicks to me as "great"/"all-time" status as it does for a lot here. it's pretty sleepy, even compared to others in this sub-genre that is already a little sleepy by design

 

Garden Song/Kyoto back to back punch for me. Rest is good but boring imo

This head-to-head has me revisiting both and god DAMN the beat for “Power” remains flawless.

 

This was a real tough one. As much as I despise Kanye now, there's no denying how massive that album was for me 10 years ago. Punisher will probably stand the test of time too, but I gotta go with MBDTF

 

That’s awesome. I was just trying to bust the balls of Pat and the other guy for saying there was an objective right choice musically, not say you couldn’t emotionally connect to Ye.

 

Punisher has some great tracks (everything that's been mentioned, "Graceland Too" and obviously the closer), but echoing @phaynes12 on it being the definition of sleepy. I think it's intentional, I just prefer the sporadic energy and diversity of her debut.

 

"Gorgeous" into "Power" into "All of the Lights" is just an all-time great run.

I honestly was just being sarcastic with this one because I think there are plenty of reasons to justify picking either, which you said the opposite of. I’m not spoiling for a fight on this one.

 

as i said, i haven't listened to kanye in over five years so im not really looking to fight over it either. i think one album accomplishes way more than the other does/has a deeper legacy. it's alright.

 

Yeah the production never loses any shine, no matter how familiar every hook is now. The only thing that’s aged REALLY poorly is Chris Rock. And tbh I thought it was a misstep 12 years ago too.

 

also, even just removing the two albums from it entirely, the #2 seed should probably blow out an album that didn't win a yearly thread.

 

Maybe if Will Smith showed up at the end of the skit and slapped him it would work better.

gorgeous is the best song on the record, maybe the best kanye song period

 

I think this doesn't get talked about enough. His run of this, Watch the Throne, and Cruel Summer are peak confidence-building Kanye.

 

I feel like there were rumors it was a ghostwrite but probably the best lyrics on a Kanye song
