I Want You Back is my vote for best pop song of all time. The Temptations have better songs, although My Girl is a classic.

 

Grew up playing "My Girl" with friends on guitar. Lots of fond memories with that song. Temptations for me!

 

It’s I Want You Back for me, but couldn’t be mad at this going either way

 

Was going to say pretty much exactly this. Also gets my vote.

Pretty close for me but listening to them again right now I think I like "My Girl" slightly more.

Hate to vote against the Tempts (who still manage to be underrated as hell because nobody takes them seriously as an albums band), but “I Want You Back” is basically a perfect pop song. That Jamerson baseline is just pure joy.

 

Honestly kinda shocked at these results. Is "I Want You Back" becoming underrated? Is that possible? Gimmie Ain't Too Proud to Beg and it's a harder choice

 

I'll take the Temps over Jackson 5 any day. I grew up with parents who were both very into motown. The Temptations are probably my mom's favorite act ever except maybe The Four Tops. My dad's been in many bands throughout his life and still sings My Girl with his band today so. Gotta go My Girl.

 

Ya I way prefer I Want You Back. Not that My Girl isn’t great, but Iwyb bassline is iconic.

best part of I want you back though is right as the fade out starts and mj yells “HA! I’ll show you that I love you,” the energy is uncontainable

 

By the way, if you haven't heard All Directions, Cloud Nine, Masterpiece, The Sky's the Limit etc., you definitely should. Their early albums with the hits were a bit of the spotty Motown standard, but they really did grow into being album artists over time.

 

See I actually prefer their earlier motown sound compared to the funkadelic stuff in the late 60s and 70s. But I never could get into that sound as much in general, let alone just with the Temptations ha
