wouldn’t say JEW are the best at any of those three, or even really top, but they might be the best or close at mixing all three, sure. they just haven’t put out a good album since chase this light and treating them like Damage is a good listen is one of the most baffling things i only ever see on this site

Are we grouping them with like, Drive Thru Records bands or Brand New or The Menzingers or The Wonder Years or 1975… I just don’t get the claim!

Integrity Blues was their 3rd best album, Pat.

Also Damage is a good album with bad production. You love a lot of albums with bad production, as do I. Haha

    fall away Supporter

Like most bands in the "emo" umbrella, it's hard to pin them down to a single genre, but like @phaynes12 said, they blend those different sounds. You could probably group them with artists like The Get Up Kids, Promise Ring, Third Eye Blind, Weezer maybe even Saves the Day and The Early November, I guess (and they're better than every single one of those bands)

  6. VW is one of the most overated big indie acts imho. It's Clarity.

  7. Yeah this one’s less about liking Clarity for me and more about disliking FOTB/vampire weekend in general

Man, did not realize people hated FotB. "Sympathy" is an absolutely undeniable jam, imo.

if it weren’t JEWs best album and were VWs best it would be more of a debate for me

Clarity is gonna win, but my vote actually goes to FOTB, love that album so much and I know not many others do

Never got the hate outside of the length and a couple dud songs. So much exceptional material on it.

Harmony Hall is probably my favorite song from that entire year, if not my favorite VW song period.

For a borderline throwaway song, the harmonized guitar coming in in 2021 gives me all the feels

It’s a good album, it just pales in comparison to their others

holy shit yeah, this. Am I blanking on 2019 releases? This actually won? Going to have to listen to it again simply based on it winning the year. I remember enjoying it but not thinking really anything of it after really enjoying Vampires.

Yeah, this was me too. I don't remember this album at all aside from thinking it was vaguely pleasant. I liked Modern Vampires a lot, and put that on my EOTY list in 2013, but this one didn't draw me in. Will have to give it a listen tomorrow.

Looks like the closest albums on its heels were Charli XCX (never heard that album) and The National (maybe my least favorite National album). Weird year.

Vampire Weekend and Charli were my two favorite albums that year so I'm quite content

lol i meant for 2003, since we were litigating why other albums didn’t win for their years

FOTB is a bit of a dud compared to Modern Vampires. Also, Clarity is so good. Bleed American was my OG favorite from day one, but lately I listen to Clarity more and more.
