Round of 32 (Old Comedies): The Simpsons vs. Arrested Development

Two shows that went on way past their heyday. Which do you pick?

 

Voting as if the Netflix seasons never happened, but expecting The Simpsons to easily win this.

 

Yeah honestly those first three seasons of Arrested Development are still fantastic but I've been watching old seasons of The Simpsons recently so I might be leaning more towards that.

Tough draw for Arrested Development. Simpsons turned into dog shit but I don’t even consider later Simpsons the same show. The first 9 or so seasons of the Simpsons is about as good as anything.

 

This is a blood bath for me. Two shows that have the highest of highs but stuck around too long. I can't even pick one. I have to abstain

 

The Simpsons even in its bad seasons can be kind of fascinating in a "let's see what this cultural institution is up to" way.

Arrested Development's 5th season is just flat out boring

 

Tough draw as the Simpsons is best show of all time.

Both shows are half bad. I'll give it to the one who was great for like 10 years over the one that was great for 2

 

This is rough for AD but the choice is obvious.

 

I loved Arrested Development for a while but after the awful 4th season I went back and saw it never was that good to begin with. Too desperate for a laugh and moves too quickly because it isn't confident in the jokes.

 

AD even having 3 votes is preposterous

 

Pick any 2 seasons 2-9 and they're better than either good AD season. And AD's good seasons were pretty good.

 

It's a bummer that AD's legacy has been tainted by seasons 4 and 5 (which are indeed terrible). The first three seasons hold up well imo. But they're still nowhere near peak Simpsons, so it's a moot point.

 

Seasons 1-3 of AD is legendary stuff regardless of the Netflix seasons

Arrested Development is great, but my entire sense of humour, and indeed life, has been shaped by watching The Simpsons.
