Round of 32 (New Shows): Mad Men vs. Better Call Saul

I wish I could say this was closer, but it's absolutely Mad Men

 

Absolutely adore both shows but Mad Men is #2 all time for me as far as TV Drama Series

 

Mad Men is my favorite television show

 

The biggest flaw in Mad Men was the budget. One day I will watch Better Call Saul.

 

I tried with BCS but it didn't do much for me. I heard it got better

 

i watched the first half of S1 of BCS a few times and kept giving up, then finally pushed through and yeah it absolutely gets better.

 

I can genuinely say I like BCS more than BB. I know quite a few have that sentiment on this site.

 

It’s already better but if it sticks the landing with the final season it’ll be official

 

Better Call Saul is good but it can’t do anything in the final season to top Mad Men, that ship has sailed

 

BCS is a much better show all around, but I can see how nostalgia would make someone prefer Mad Men

(Just messing around, I know opinions are subjective)

 

Well “nostalgia” is one of the reasons but maybe not in the way you mean it :)

 

Mad Men is still great. It is one of the best ensemble of characters of any show, with even some of the smallest roles finding personality and flair. I haven't seen Better Call Saul, but one of the problems with Breaking Bad is that there were a lot of weak characters surrounding a terrific Walter White. The big six of Mad Men are all fully realized characters, but even people like Harry Crane or Duck Phillips come off as real people with feelings, goals, and weaknesses.

I find Better Call Saul to be a very different show than Breaking Bad, better in many ways including that the main characters are stronger.

 

Yeah like in addition to Jimmy, Mike, and Gus returning, you have Kim, Howard, Nacho, Chuck, Lalo, etc. The characters in BCS are all way stronger.

 

Saul Goodman and Mike are the two best non-Walter characters in the original show, so that is always a positive. I might start it soon so I can end around the time the last season does.

 

I haven't seen BCS yet but it's Mad Men.

 

Mad Men probably my #1. I kind of dislike the ending, which is a shame, but ultimately it’s the difference between me calling the series a 10 vs a 9.5.

BCS gets so much better literally every season. Iirc, the first half of S1 was a bit slow to me, but it picks up steam fast from there. Damn, I really need to rewatch it.

Went MM because it’s incredible but also it’s not really fair since BCS isn’t concluded yet

 

Either way I’m very excited to see Tetra’s thoughts on BCS when they watch it
