An incisive satire of Presidential politics and an examination of the malaise in college, which do you pick?
Veep very easily takes this one for me. It was a little too... agressieve? at times for my taste but there’s also a lot to love. Richard Splett forever Have tried Community on a few different occasions. Don’t think I ever laughed. Really not for me
Yeah, I guess that’s kinda what I mean by “aggressive”. Like a lot of the time it passed through humor, soared right over shock, and landed on being just flat out mean and pessimistic. Like a pissing contest over who could say the meanest thing haha. Not only did it feel contrived but it put me on edge sometimes
I'm currently watching Veep and I'm only on the second season but so far it's great. I'd still probably take Community over it but maybe I'll change my mind when I finish it. The Thick of It only got better as it went on.
Had to hold my breath while voting. I expected a worse result. JLD is a fucking legend. Probably the most I laughed out loud at a show ever.
I’ve seen like 3 episodes of Veep, but would very highly recommend The Thick of It, which is I guess the original (sort of) British version, also written by Iannucci - a brilliantly farcical and irreverent sitcom about government departments and the spin machine. From the little I’ve seen of Veep (the very little), The Thick of It was leagues ahead of it.
"You bought a bank out of social embarrassment? I sometimes buy the Big Issue out of social embarrassment, I don't buy a fucking bank". Roger Allam is so good in this, even if he doesn't get the lines like Malcolm Tucker does, the way he delivers everything is just so spot on.
Veep all the way. Cannot stand Joel McHale so community was never doing it for me. Abed is hysterical tho.
Will always have some affection for those first 3 seasons of Community, even though I have no desire to ever return to it.
this scene alone wins the comedy half of the bracket. “the cloud botherer” lives in my head rent free
