A remake of a British classic that became a cultural phenomenon versus a seemingly simple parody show that dives deep into human feelings and motivation. Which do you pick?
Nathan for You is brilliant, and that last episode would have made for an incredible documentary film. The Office burned out very quickly, and even at its best it was not better than the British version.
It did not. But thats only my opinion. It was brilliant for a number of years. And was Must See TV, I believe.
Halfway through season two it was starting to run out of steam. Andy Bernard and celebrity cameos like Jerome Bettis in Season Three showed that it was not going to improve. It would have been interesting if the show ended with Ryan becoming Michael's boss, but they had to just keep going.
Both really test my cringe tolerance, which is pretty low…but Nathan for You is fucking brilliant. Some of the biggest laughs.
I genuinely love a lot of The Office but Nathan for You is so creative and unique. One of the funniest shows ever and one of the least predictable things I've ever watched.
The Office is the most overrated good show of all time imo. Nathan For You is one of the best tv shows ever made.
I get that Nathan is super unique and is probably a more interesting show than The Office, but I’ve never been able to get on its wavelength. I guess I’m never sure where the line is, and most of Nathan’s interactions with the business owners feel mean spirited in a way that isn’t always deserved. I know he’s involved with John Wilson, and I feel like that show is a better executed version of a similar concept.
Nathan for You is one of the greatest shows of all time. The Office has one all time great season (2), two very good ones (1 & 3), and then 6 seasons that admittedly aren’t short on laughs but betray just about everything good about the first three seasons and the British version. I know you can’t really trust reality tv but if it was even half real the gas station episode of Nathan remains to this day the most outlandish thing I’ve ever seen on television.
