A loving look into the mundane nature of local bureaucracy going against a story of a woman trying to find her way in London. Which one will advance?
I really mustve been missing something with Fleabag. I need to return to it. Parks aged worse than The Office, but still had flashes
Did you watch season 2? I thought season 1 was great but 2 is where it was elevated to one of my all time favourite shows.
Fleabag is obviously more well rounded thematically, and the fact that it isn’t censored is a little op in this scenario. But even taking away sheer quantity of episodes, Parks gave me more laughs per capita and we’re voting on comedies. I think it has some of the best character arcs in the network sitcom format too
Parks is one of the few (maybe only?) of those kind of American sitcoms that I’ve actually seen - a very relaxing and gentle watch when I was at Uni with mates. The sort of thing where every character is nice, and you can just tune out and enjoy it. Would have no interest in rewatching it, but it worked for me at the time. Not that it’s exactly a fair comparison with Fleabag, but Fleabag is significantly better. The opening joke, “Do I have a massive arsehole?” may well be the best opening scene on a Tv show I’ve ever seen? Laughed my head off at that. I saw Waller-Bridge do the Fleabag one woman stage show 5 years or so ago, was remarkable.
The Americans not even making the bracket leaves this whole thing basically moot for me in many ways, but if Fleabag goes out round one it will be another level of disappointing. Hoping that The Sopranos takes it all to make up for some of this.
Both are great in their own ways and feel kind of apples and oranges in a way the other matchups haven’t quite so far. I’m positive Fleabag is a better watch in 2022 but I liked Parks more at my peak of watching either of them. I think Parks probably ends up a bit underrated now due to its cast and the degree to which its optimism feels hilariously misguided in hindsight, but it was very good for the majority of its run.
Parks & Rec is one of my favorite shows ever, Fleabag was very good but once it ended I never desired more nor do I feel compelled to re-watch.
The scene in Fleabag where the sister makes a big deal out of her awful haircut and then goes to the salon to complain and realizes it’s EXACTLY what she asked for is the funniest thing I’ve seen in many, many years.
It's not but I can still see myself watching it multiple times throughout my life. Very much doubt I'll ever watch all of Parks again.
Isn't the pool about which you like more and not necessarily quality? So rewatch ability is definitely important depending on how you are grading each matchup.
