It’s alright, but I prefer Mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis my good sir

    D'oh! Prestigious

I don't care what wins, it's been fun for me to revisit the albums and lurk on the consecutive years to have myself reminded of loads of good music (or learn even). I certainly didn't only vote in the Jimmy Eat World threads, though I don't think I have voted against Jimmy Eat World yet, seems it just feels right for me with the idea this wouldn't be judged what's "correct" or not - it's a very small poll that would go much differently outside of this group :)) Sometimes I skipped on a vote if I wasn't familiar with both of the albums or maybe didn't care for both etc., to me it seems quite fair.

Gotta remember that even for a small group of vote casters there's still so much unique background. I was born late in the 80s and in Poland, got introduced to Prince or Bruce much differently than most people here, voting for Jimmy or Radiohead for me is just due to genuine connection, I didn't plan to evaluate my thoughts on what would be more fit historically or a good look ;d

aaand I preferred Street Fighter to Mortal Kombat!

I think a lot of the issue comes from not everyone being familiar with all albums. Of course someone who enjoys Jimmy is going to vote them over an album they listened to once, just to hear it and cast a vote. Is Purple Rain (or insert another classic album that you want) a better album than Futures? For sure, but if you've spent the last 15 years listening to Futures and listened to purple rain once or twice, its pretty obvious where you're voting.

For the record, the Prince thread is sadly dead. It had some heat when he died

I still need to listen to more of his stuff. I love Purple Rain but never really picked up anything else.

Futures winning (and maybe winning the whole thing?) is fun. It’d be a less interesting bracket if the historically significant albums that top every other “Greatest albums list” steamrolled past the more unique, site specific picks.

Having some albums selected that are not broadly popular with the wider population makes this more fun and unusual. Obviously Purple Rain wins this match up in 99.999% of other sites and user-base, the fact that this place is the 0.0001% exception makes it much more interesting.

My friend, go complete the holy Trinity with Dirty Mind and Sign O the Times. I promise you won’t regret it
