"Nothingwrong" is the only Futures song I don't totally love.

where would i be if i was my brain Prestigious

I didn't. Purple Rain got me obsessed with the music in a way that Futures has never done. Listening to about 3/4 of Futures this morning confirmed that.

  5. I like "Nothingwrong" lol. Don't think there's any stinkers on the album.

futures, as much as i like this band, doesnt really earn its reputation imo. clarity does, easily, and chase this light and invented are probably underrated if anything, but ive always thought futures is merely good

I love Futures but the adoration def feels as much a social bonding device as it does a deeply held opinion.

Also the low end is unreal

  8. i love the song but the obvious outlier on chase this light is gotta be somebody’s blues. it’s an outlier in their whole discography. wish they sounded like that more tbh.

Do you like Invented more than Futures? I feel like Invented's biggest strength and weakness is that it sounds like the band was just trying to make another Futures.

"Somebody's Blues" is a good song that just doesn't work for me as part of Chase This Light. Feels like such a weird momentum drop. I think I'd enjoy it more as part of a hypothetical full-album version of Stay On My Side Tonight.

i do, i think invented is a great mix of what they do well on futures and what they do well on chase

i dont like somebodys blues tho

  12. right, like i was saying, it’s kind of thee outlier of their discography. still one of their best in a vacuum though.

  13. invented and damage flip flop as my least favorite outside of the s/t, which might as well be a different band

Wow! That's surprising to me. I consider myself an Invented apologist, but the title track is probably the only song I'd put up with my 7-8 favorite songs from Futures.

I can always be better, so I'll always try. Supporter

    but it did nothing... wrong

  16. My only hot Futures take is that I go back and forth on whether I adore The World You Love or if it’s one of the most boring songs they’ve written. Maybe both are true

nah thats probably the best on the album

“The World You Love” is one of my favorites, for sure. Love the second verse so much.

Probably my favorite on the album too

  20. Y'all are crazy lol the tones on Futures alone put it above so many similar albums from the same period, let alone the songwriting. And Invented is...well, it's a mixed bag at best

  21. what do you mean when you say "tones" because if you are referring to the guitar tone, it's actually one of my hangups about the album, which i like to be clear lol. i am not mad they haven't gone back to gil norton since. it sounds like him trying to record them to sound similar to the bands he is known for recording like the pixies and foo fighters and that kind of sound is not where they shine at all. JMJ has done a similar job of recording them to much better effect.

Thats’s wild. I love the guitar sounds on Futures. I love compression.

These days I probably like the mix on that album more than the music

  23. i do not love the loudness wars era haha. that being said, it’s more a critique of Norton and the album just happens to be unfairly criticized bc of it. still love the songs/i pop for them every time when i see them live.

  24. there might be a correlation between how bad the production of the albums are to my ear and how much i enjoy them haha. invented sounds immaculate but outside of like three songs the writing kinda doesn’t do it for me.

What would those albums be, so I can compare?
