Listening to Futures now for the first time in a bit. "Work" is great but I don't really love much else through "Pain". Not bad by any stretch, but I'm not seeing any genius or anything. I think the band impresses me most when they take it slow. I remember liking 23, we'll see.

Nothing Wrong was not good. Night Drive is good though.

Night Drive is awesome! ;( though the lyrics are quite painful at times.

 

Yeah 23 is great. This is the band's strong suit. I definitely like Clarity and Bleed American better than this one.

 

clarity is the only one i like more and the only one i'd say i love. even with four or five songs on this being meh to me, the highs are much higher than the rest of their catalog, and it isn't like the other albums don't have bad songs too

 

@phaynes12 making me wonder why I ever trust his opinions on anything.

 

Night Drive is beautiful and my fiancee and I's song, I'm obviously biased but calling that song "bad" is bizarre

 

Idk, there's a lot of cool little bits on Clarity that I don't think they took with them onto Futures. A song like 12.23.95 is super unique and allows me to see what sets them apart from other bands doing similar stuff with their more popular songs. I didn't get that much on Futures. Same thing with the bells on "A Sunday". I think Clarity is far and away the better album there, and it's the only one that I'm really okay with going this far in the tournament.

tbf they didn't take them onto bleed american before this either. this is at least a bit more "weird"/dips into the experimental pool a bit more than BA

 

Oh I've got the order mixed up, I thought Bleed American was before Clarity. Yeah, they sold out!

 

Demo Kill is by far the highlight of Futures for me. Real one is fine too, but something about the demo works better for me. Work, 23, and Night Drive (def disagree on bad!!) are the others I really like from it. The rest is fine if not a bit heavy handed. I wouldn’t call it bad, but I think it’s pretty easily among the albums I have the hardest time understanding this site’s consensus on.

Clarity is a lot better all around. 0 qualms with anyone putting it in the emo HOF first ballot.

the chorus of night drive is one of the worst for me in a cloying way. the verses are fine i guess. it’s okay. i just don’t think they’re as good of a pop rock band as they are an “alt rock” or whatever band. enjoy the song you like, jesus.

 

you get so salty about people not having the same exact opinion as you lol it’s baffling

 

I like Clarity. Haven’t cared for anything else I have heard by them. I haven’t actively disliked anything either though. It’s just there.

See that’s way less romantic than what happens in movies

Then I guess ours is like, idk, Always On Time or something lol We basically like the same music, I just like more of it

 

Ours is Run Away With Me because I asked her out and then left on tour for three weeks and while texting on one of the long van days she mentioned never having heard Emotion so we listened to the whole album “together”
