ADHD, Rigamortus, Ronald Reagan Era, Hol’ Up are all better than any song on GKMC. I play them more than any other Kendrick album, even if the rest isn’t the best. There’s a reason GKMC was as hyped as it was, Section 80 was great. And, imo, this didn’t match the heights of it

 

"Hol Up" is a full-on ape of Wiz Khalifa and the intro hook to "Ronald Reagan Era" is like textbook 2010 frat rap.

 

The intro to RRE is absolutely an annoying Kendrick choice, but the song is great. Disagree with Hol Up, find that to be a weird comparison

GKMC is a more consistent record. Love both records but Section.80 has a handful of tracks that I’m fine skipping over, whereas I think GKMC has maybe one or two.

 

Backseat Freestyle alone is better than all these

 

Maybe Hol Up, but not the others. Close though!

 

Fuck Your Ethnicity, ADHD, Rigamortus, and HiiiPower are all top tier Kendrick imo, but I think the worst song on GKMC (not including bonus tracks) pretty easily beats whatever you'd call the next best song on s80. Hooks are an interesting thing to go section.80 over GKMC on, I feel like the latter is almost all hooks.

No disagreement that TPAB smokes them all musically and lyrically. I can argue GK or DAMN on fun, but nothing else really.

 

I’m with mostly with you as you know but GKMC can’t be worse than an album that has We Cry Together on it

 

New Kendrick is good and DAMN is his best, rivals GKMC in terms of balancing substance with listenability. TPAB is a once in a lifetime record, but you have to be in a certain mood to listen to it unlike GKMC or DAMN. I'd argue you probably have to be in a mood to listen to the new one, too, but not for the same reasons.

I wish I liked the newest Kendrick because I love the 3 prior to it.

 

TPAB is the only one of his that’s really worthy of the adulation he always gets

 

TPAB is great but even it is not this once in a lifetime album. Plenty of rap albums have done similar and at least equally good things in the last 30 or so years.
