In the Popcast they talked about it being like Yeezus and Lemonade, but - and this might sound crazy - it also reminds me of the Beastie Boys
I read someone else make the Beasties reference, but can’t remember where. I see where you’re coming from, though
I just had an epiphany while listening to this in the shower The most apt comparison is actually M.I.A. This is European-style urban melting pot music. Music like this - meaning with the same ethos and often grounded in urban music genres (more often than not Hip Hop and R&B), but with often wildly different results - has been made across the continent for decades now, from the underground to the quasi-mainstream. The rest of the world just doesn't know about it, as it often stays semi-local. M.I.A. and Rosalia are big exceptions to this. EDIT: I have seen hints of this comparison in other places too.
Also, I'm already mad at people pretending that 20 creatively bankrupt indie rock/pop albums are somehow better than this at the end of the year
I got the CD for my car. It has a really nice, well-designed, thick booklet. If you still like CDs, this is a good one.
I don’t know, I like how the album goes from fast to slower and back, but the Hentai dip is too long for me
I'm not trying to be an ass, I just want to point out - in the context of a music discussion - my confusion at that statement, because it appears to me that it is the most "generic pop song" i.e. the least "Rosalia song" on there (lyrics aside, but I also grew up listening to Trina, so this really doesn't raise my eyebrows like it does some critics').
Listened to this because of the NYT Popcast on it. Definitely get the M.I.A. comparison in terms of there's so much going on here, it was like listening to "Arular" for the first time. I'm sure it will take multiple listens to pick everything apart, but what an exciting album.
