I've had this thought too and had a similar thought when What's Going On topped the recently re-done albums list It makes sense when any large list like this is compiled from who knows how many ballots that certain types of songs/albums will rise to the top but it's interesting to see how what is considered "great" or "important" evolves (and what stuff gets left behind as a result)
Lists are weird with timing. I don't think i,i was as revered as the others. If they dropped the list within a year of FE breaking through or after BI,BI, I'd assume he'd have 1-2 on there (and probably high up)
as others have said ITT looking at this list does make one think that indie rock in general has taken a hit in critical circles in recent years
was surprised to see them and no My Chem I could see the argument that My Chem don't have that one crossover song as definitive (and thus could make a list like this) as "Sugar" though
"thank you (falettinme be mice elf agin)" should be in the top ten tbh, so much great american music springs from people getting their minds destroyed by that song maybe i've read too much greil marcus
Anyone game to try the impossible challenge of coming up with their top 50/100 songs list? We had a favorite albums thread inspired by last year's Rolling Stone 500 albums list, so it might be fun to do something similar for songs. Tougher list to make, though! Here's what we had going for albums: The Chorus.Fm Users Definitive Albums List • forum.chorus.fm
Every time I've tried to do a Favourite Song list, it just ends up basically being the same as my Favourite Albums lists, with one song representing the album, even though I do try and avoid it. I find it quite hard to think of favourite songs, without thinking of my favourite albums.
Imagine listening to 'Pieholden Suite' or 'She's A Jar' or 'Via Chicago' and then thinking Heavy Metal Drummer is 'the' song
