I forgot about the Marvel comics. I've only read like 5 and they go against this whole "he doesn't use his saber" nonsense.

This is the story of the Darth Vader you have built in your head, not really based on canon haha

Yea, facts are fun, so his "theory" is woefully unconvincing.

I dunno. The only reason I can think of that he'd pull it out is to deflect blaster fire. Other than that, it doesn't make sense.

Either way, he's not using it so it's a moot point.

We shall see about the movie. I don't buy that interview. In a few weeks we will know.

And the other point was your whole defense of it that does not fit with canon. That point is not moot.

I'm not defending it, I'm trying to rationalize the decision to not have his lightsaber appear in the film. Don't get me wrong, I was definitely on board with Vader tearing shit up with his iconic weapon. That's what I wanted as well. But if this article is to believed, then I guess I'm ok with it. You can willingly refuse to believe this article, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Why rationalize something that we don't know for sure? As I said, we shall see.

I will never trust interviews as much as I used to. Not after John Harrison.

Who is John Harrison and what happened with the interview?

Don't laugh at me. You don't know the power of the dark side of the Vader I invented in my head.

But really, I saw it in one of the trailers or maybe by itself. They had Vader walking in slow motion as he opens his lightsaber. Surely I'm not crazy and somebody else saw this too?

Finally got a ticket to see this. Going on Saturday morning at 11am because it was less than $7 haha. Definitely will be avoiding this thread for a few days once it's out that Thursday.

why was everyone so opposed to the fact that Vader in the OT only used his saber when he did? We've got three films of evidence of his character from this era. Of course when hes young and rage filled and angsty in the prequels he might act differently.

Yeah, I don't get it. He only used it when he had to. I'm sure he used it much more between the prequels and the OT. But by the time of the OT, there's no need.

If the movies were the only canon material you would have a point. But it's not. No one argued the use in the movies. But it was said he never uses his saber against non force people, which is canonically false.

  19. I've been looking all over and can't find it. It looks like something I'd love. I wouldn't become a super collector but it would be fun to be a novice and play.

I don't remember him doing that in the OT. Whether or not he did, that guys sentiment about Vaders temperament in the OT is true. I'm not going to have a conversation about any canon outside the films because I and most everyone else haven't read it.

You know he let mace win so Anakin would feel bad for him and kill mace right?? Key plot point, the emperor is a master manipulator

I don't expect everyone to be up to date with all of canon. I have said before I am not really up to date or read the comics. But I do generally have an idea of their storylines and major events that happen.

That said, if someone doesn't bother to learn anything outside of the movies they should not make such strong statements on characters. At the very best, their opinion is misinformed. Which kind of makes it pointless. If you are going to ignore canon you need to be open to being wrong, often. Disney has tied a lot of their material together through various sources. If you check it all out, awesome! If you don't, that's cool too, but don't get all defensive when people prove you wrong using canon material. Instead, take that info and add it to your knowledge. It shouldn't be so difficult.

Yea, I always felt that was clear. Why else would Palpatine suddenly have the power to finish Mace off? He was truly a manipulator mastermind.

This is what I was getting at. The majority of people aren't going to be familiar with the comics or games so the only Vader they know is from the films. And that Vader isn't someone to whip out his saber against non Force users.
