Rod Wave - SoulFly (March 26, 2021) Album

I really, really love this tape. Most enthusiastic I've been for a hip hop tape this year.

 

Listened to a few songs today. Makes a ton of sense that he’s signed to Kevin Gates’ label. Will listen to the full thing this week

 

I never fully got into Kevin Gates

 

This is in my top 5 of the year. Haven't been this into a hip hop project in a year or two.

Gotta check the new one. Never got into Pray 4 Love nearly as much as Ghetto Gospel but the new singles have been really strong.

 

Street Runner is the clear highlight so far, but I've also heard that one a bunch. I assume the others will grow as I listen more

Unfortunately found this a bit of a slog to get through. Don’t say it often but could have used more features to break it up. He’s got his lane(s) and he’s really got at them but it starts to get extremely monotonous. Think that’s why I like Ghetto Gospel most, because that’s the one I heard first.

anyone have any immediate highlights that I should check outside of the context of the record?

It’s definitely overlong but I enjoyed it. His songs take a bit to work themselves into my head, so I’ll post highlights after I listen one or two more times
