RM - Right Place, Wrong Person (May 24, 2024)

Wanted to kick off a thread for this album, as I think it's something a lot of people around here might like! RM is best known as the leader of BTS, but his solo work allows him to go off in a way that being in a super popular group does not. This album in particular is RM really leaning into an alternative/jazzy/funky/super vibey world that is really a fantastic listen.

This album rules and is worth a genuine listen for people who are fans of Thundercat, Tyler, and maybe even Gorillaz. I can't wait to jam to this all weekend!

 

I admit this is not something I would have ever given a chance if I wasn't already a huge fan of RM, but this album is a piece of art. The more times I listen to it (and it's definitely meant to be listened to front to back, those transitions!), the more things I hear and am like woahh. Speak your mind Namjoon! I keep thinking about his speech during the Festa dinner video and it makes me so proud that he finally can let it out.

 

Yeah all good comparisons, the album is SO Tyler coded but still very RM at heart

I'm obsessed with the bass throughout the album, I don't have a physical copy with liners yet but I know he worked closely with the guys from Balming Tiger on some of this, curious if it might be their bassist.

 

I picked up version c from Target before work this morning, but I haven't had the chance to open it yet. I'll let you know if I get an opportunity to look.

 

Okay I opened the album and there are a lot of bassists involved, but from what I could tell, the only one from Balming Tiger was the one who goes by Unsinkable on "Out of Love".

 

holy shit this went way past my expectations. Namjoon popped the fuck off

i happened to see a copy at Target earlier and bought it out of respect (i also thought it was a vinyl copy given the size of the packaging but turns out it was a CD copy )

 

For all the BTS releases over the past few years, they’ve put out the vinyl about a year after the cd. It drives me insane because I end up buying a copy of each instead of just the vinyl, but I realize that’s also probably the reason they do it ugh

 

Love this look into the album via Jimin's first listen! This really gets into Namjoon's mindset over the past few years, and what led to him recording and releasing this record, basically in the knick of time before he enlisted (and actually delayed doing so for a few extra months!). Extra points for Jimin saying that he missed this Namjoon, agree! Go off, Joon!

 

This video is such a vibe.

 

I adore Jimin, you can tell he really listens and supports them when the others voice their feelings / concerns.

I love that Namjoon let out his goofy side for the Groin mv, it's like they were talking about in the MMM video, that he's such a contradiction all the time.

 

Namjoon finally getting the recognition he's always deserved

 

I'm really excited for this! Looks like it's already getting some festival screenings too!
