I miss this band, haven't listened to them in ages and they used to be a top 3 band for me. I guess I'll throw in my ranking: Siren Song Sufferer Appeal to Reason RPM The Black Market Endgame Unraveling
I'm really happy to see Appeal to Unreason so high up on peoples lists. That record got slammed upon release back on AP.net and it dumbfounded me. Such a great album. The Unraveling isn't loved enough. I agree that Siren Song/RPM/Sufferer are their top three, but The Unraveling is a fun record that doesn't know how to pace itself snd is filled with some very impressive songwriting for such a young band. Endgame is horrible.
Oh man; Chris' awesomeness can't be overstated. I truly don't think Siren Song would've been the breakout hit it was if it weren't for his guitar work. Really drove songs like Paper Wings, Anywhere But Here, etc. I was 15 or 16 when he left and started Last of the Believers and became such a fan boy for that EP they released lol.
I agree with you The Unraveling. I love that record but it certainly has its problems. Everchanging is one of my favorite songs by them. It definitely has a bunch of gems though.
It did? If I were on that site when the album dropped, I would have died defending it lol. Until End Game happened, I thought Rise was going to go strong forever
Right there with you. But yeah, it had a bad rep on AP.net upon release if memory serves me. Chris Fallon reviewed it and gave it a good score, but the comments and forum weren't kind to it.
I try to not be the guy stuck in the "old days" with bands, but Rise Against is one where, unfortunately, that's exactly what I am. I didn't think Chris leaving at the time would drastically impact my enjoyment, but it did. I thought Zach coming in would be good because Only Crime was rad and Gwar is cool, but I'm pretty much stuck on the first three or four records. All of that said, I have always been happy for the band garnering success and maintaining their ethics at the same time.
Surprised this band hasn't been very active lately, especially with everything going on politically in the world.
This thread got me back into a Rise Against kick and I've been listening all afternoon, for that I thank you.
Did anyone see their tour when Appeal to Reason first came out and they had Gaslight, Thrice and yuckalkaline boringtrio opening? They only played three songs from Appeal and was pretty much all of Suffer, a lot of Counter and a few off the first two. They opened up with Drones which I have to say may be their best opener they've ever done. My voice was gone with the 1,2,3 punch of Drones, Give it All and State of the Union.
That's an unnecessary jab at Alkaline Trio, who IMO are a much better band than Rise Against. But I didn't go to that tour, only time I saw Rise Against was at Warped, and the set was just okay.
I could never see a Rise set just being ok, esp a Warped set where they probably play all the heavy hitters like Reeducation and Prayer. We have to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. And it may have been unnecessary but man did they kill the vibe of that show playing their stationary boring set in between Thrice and Rise, they should have opened instead. Although I don't envy anyone who has to follow up Thrice ending with the Earth Will Shake which literally shook the walls.
Rise Against Setlist at The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills This was the setlist, and honestly, it was kind of boring.
Rise Against's set at Riot Fest 2014 was one of the worst sets I've endured for any band. I've seen my share of good ones from them, too, but man it was rough.
I knew I saw them one other time, I ended up leaving a few songs into it, it wasn't good at all. Mix that with the shitty weather, it was an easy decision to leave that night
I dunno.... you got Chamber, Ready to Fall (which sounds better live IMO), Reeducation, Satellite, Savoir and Give It All. The only song I wouldn't want to hear is Make It Stop. Unless they sounded bad....
Chamber was fun, but besides that, honestly they didn't sound good at all. Both times seeing them, it felt extremely lacking
Pretty much every Rise Against bill I've seen has been great: 2007: Billy Talent, Rise Against, Moneen, Anti Flag 2008: Rise Against, Thursday, Sage Francis 2011: Rise Against, Flogging Molly, The Black Pacific 2015: Rise Against, Killswitch Engage Letlive. 2016: At Amnesia Rockfest
Yeah, I distinctly remember feeling they rushed through due to the rain, and that made me so frustrated... because they weren't in the rain. We were. So we clearly had accepted the fact it was raining lol.
I've only seen them at clubs and indoor venues, which I think they'd work better than at Warped or an outside festival type show. Maybe that has something to do with it? It sucks because I hate when people get bad live experiences with good bands.
It's unfortunate, because now I don't feel the need to see them again after two mediocre sets, and not liking any of their newer albums.
I know they can be great live, but with all of that I literally cannot blame you. They have three strikes with me so I'm out on them. Boring me inbetween Thrice and Rise, not playing Time to Kill that night and lastly playing that awful Save Me song of theirs. Then add a the bonus of Matt sounding terrible at my Blink date last summer.
