I agree! The songs are great but am I the only one that thinks something about the production seems off? I can’t put my finger on it. Still think the album is a return to form so to speak.
Appeal to Reason Endgame The Sufferer & the Witness Siren Song of the Counter-Culture Wolves Revolutions Per Minute The Black Market The Unraveling Anyone planning on doing a Rise Against bracket?
Edit: Oops, you already got shit for it. But I won't take it back!! ---------------- I'm up for a Rise Against bracket! Been binging them again for the last few weeks and even learned to love The Black Market. Endgame though... Maybe one day!
Track 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 haha but honestly, it was just bland to me and a huge step down from the previous 4 albums that I loved. It's not a bad album really, but their weakest for me and one I only go back to a few songs for Architects, Satellite and Survivor Guilt.
I didn't really like it either when it first came out. It wasn't until a few years later I realized I liked it as much as I do now. The only songs I don't really like that much are A Gentleman's Coup and Endgame. My favorites are Architects and Satellite. The album that never grew on me was The Black Market. I can't even tell what it is I don't like about it.
I think my album ranking would go something like this: Sufferer and the Witness Wolves Appeal to Reason Black Market Revolutions Per Minute Siren Song (I know this is probably the universal favorite and I'm going to get killed for this, but I've just never been that in to this album. I like it, but not as much as a lot of the others) Endgame The Unraveling
We are the opposite on which ones grew. I've listened to both so much because RA is a top band for me, and Black Market is the one that grew on me. We agree on the two best end game songs though!
RPM Siren Appeal Suffer Unraveling Endgame Wolves Black Market Goes without saying I enjoy all of their albums thoroughly. Appeal is what really got me into them back into the day.
I think the #1 problem with Black Market is they had got as far as they could with Bill as producer. Many of the songs are messy because they are trying to throw back to the old days but also keeping the radio-friendly touches that they picked up recording Appeal to Reason (like the "heys" from Zack and Joe which are awkwardly shoe-horned into a lot of songs), so they just sound clunky - especially because they really, really overdid it with the fast verses / mid-tempo choruses formula. To say nothing of stuff like Great Die-Off or Methadone which would have been cut in pre-production in any other album cycle. It's not a bad self-titled EP though: 1: I Don't Want To Be Here Anymore 2: Tragedy + Time 3: The Eco-Terrorist In Me 4: A Beautiful Indifference 5: Awake Too Long I don't go in for album rankings but I would probably tier something like: God Tier Revolutions/Sufferer/Wolves Great Tier Siren Song/Endgame/Appeal Good Stuff But Lots of Ehhh As Well Tier Unraveling/Black Market
Songs I like on The Black Market: The Great Die-Off I Don't Want to Be Here Anymore Tragedy + Time The Eco-Terrorist in Me Zero Visibility And I occasionally enjoy People Live Here. The rest is just meh.
Love that song, I honestly like Black Market I think it has some classic RA songs on it. I’m massively game for a bracket!
I loved Endgame when it came out. Felt like it was an improvement from Appeal to Reason which was a massive disappointment to me, since it followed three of my all time favourite albums. I think I just listened at the right time, heard a couple of fast parts and a couple of screaming parts and decided it was a step back in the right direction. But it has definitely dropped off for me. The songs I'd include on a RA mix would be Architects, Help is on the Way, This is Letting Go and Endgame.
They finally annocuned their acoustic album or whatever it’s going to be. It’s call ghost note symphonies vol 1. “House On Fire” is the debut track from The Ghost Note Symphonies, Vol 1 - a collection of reimagined songs from our discography. You’ll find the songs stripped down, with alternate instrumentation, unique orchestration, and a surprise or two.
