Crazy that this band is 8 records deep. I remember downloading Revolutions Per Minute off Limewire in anticipation of Siren Song, and spray painting the heart fist on the grip tape of all my skateboards through high school.
I think the promotion has generally been poor this album cycle to say they are on a big label. They are touring here in the UK with Sleeping With Sirens which should have a little.
Does this album break the streak of their album openers being one of the best songs on the album? All their openers are usually really really good.
I've grown to like it a lot, but I'd place it somewhere in the middle. My favorites off the album are probably Politics of Love, Megaphone, Broadcast Signal Frequency, Welcome to the Breakdown, Miracle and Far From Perfect.
Wolves ain't no Architects or Collapse but it's still a strong opener in a streak of strong openers Closers are a different story though This album grows on me more and more
I'd have to go with The Great Die Off, State of the Union and Chamber the Cartridge as my favorite openers. Collapse right after that and then Black mask. I'd put Architects 2nd to last right before Wolves. As for closers.....I'd probably say Whereabouts Unknown with Survive right behind.
I think House on Fire would have made a great opener, that opening rift always draws me in right away.
Survive is a great song as well. "How we survive is what makes us who we are" is one of my favorite lines ever. But Rumors is far and away my favorite closer and easily a top 5 song of theirs in my book.
Whereabouts Unknown has grown to be my favourite closer and one of my favourite Rise Against-songs period. Cause all is forgiven if you could just listen, it's alright, it's alriiiiiight!
I'm not sure what to think of this album yet. On one hand, song by song it's more enjoyable than I can remember of the past few. But it's still very same-y throughout, they really have been pigenonholed into one specific sound for a while now, but these are some of the better songs in that specific sound. I honestly forgot that Black Market even existed, but I think it's time to give this band a discography run through again
House on Fire is weird in that I liked it before the album was released but I'm not certain it fits the album as a whole. Putting it in the second slot doesn't help the pacing (something else it has in common with Appeal). I just listened to Wolves - Far From Perfect - Violence back to back and I think it works rather well, actually.
In that position, Far From Perfect would be the Injection of that record. I like that idea, I'll try it
Am I getting the feeling that Long Forgotten Sons is not a liked song? I love that song If I could replace the 2nd track on Wolves with anything, it'd be Broadcast[Signal]Frequency. IMO its the only song on the album that sounds really fast punk rock like their older style, would make a cool 2nd track.
Finally had my first listen and really dug this one. I thought Endgame was good to begin with too though so I'll see how Wolves sticks before I get too carried away.
PS stuck in Australia and nowhere near a record store so ordered the CD online (yeah yeah who let me out the retirement home?) You guys got two bonus tracks which are apparently killer. I got some freaking G rated version which mutes the word bullshit. Ugh.
Oh my god. That's the worst thing you can do to that song! "This is! I'm sorry to say, but this is! You've been lying to me!"
