Looking at the chart history of this band, they've been getting stronger in Europe over the last few albums, but worse in North America.

I'm old and out of touch but without checking actual facts I'd have assumed Rise Against reached their apex in terms of popularity, impact and commercial success with Appeal To Reason (which I would attribute firstly to the hype created by the RPM-Siren Song-Sufferer build up, secondly to Savior (rightly!!) becoming huge, thirdly as that was really the end of the mainstream-o boom from which Rise Against undoubtedly benefited).

And I'd have thought it was a slide down to Black Market, then they have stayed at that level ever since.

Unraveling and RPM didn't chart on the main charts, but I'm including them so you can see what the individual charts are:

I'm assuming Ricochet hasn't got full data yet.

It didn’t chart on the billboard 200 but did chart on top album sales at 19. Billboard post all their charts on tuesdays

So did Ricochet likely not even chart?

I don’t understand how it can be 19 in top album sales but not chart on the billboard 200

I'm wondering, does it have anything to do with streaming? Like, does one chart include streaming and the other is just pure sales?

From a google search “Billboard Top Album Sales is a weekly music chart that ranks albums based on pure, traditional album sales of physical copies and digital downloads”

so physical copies plus iTunes Store/other digital store fronts sales

So yeah what you said I guess

So basically they'd be #19 if streaming wasn't included. That's not great but it's better than not charting.

Guess more people bought the album then streamed on Spotify/Apple Music/amazon/youtube music

I gave them one album listen, feeling much accomplished.

Yeah I'm confused by this too, although the charts are all fucky (technical term) according to the Sabrina Carpenter thread

Like, not charting at all would be worse than Siren Song and that just seems impossible

Yeah it’s super weird. Like the new chevelle album hit 150 on the billboard 200 but isn’t on the top album sales chart

it makes zero sense to me

They don’t even have top album sales on their graphic that’s why I didn’t think it was on there. They have current album sales. Yes they have charts for both top and current album sales

It's 6 on Top Album Sales and 5 on Top Current Album Sales. I assume the latter is probably a chart that only has new releases vs a chart with everything new and old.

Makes complete sense, thanks. Momentum from Siren Song gives Sufferer a boost. Then Sufferer gives ATR a boost. ATR boosts Endgame, which was obviously better regarded by the fanbase than I realised (I liked it better than ATR at the time but thought it started their backslide into more of a legacy act). Endgame boosted Black Market, likely due to the success of Satellite. Then the lacklustre Black Market broke the momentum and Wolves continued the trend.

I didn't like the new album either but this seems a bit harsh

  23. Spun this again today, as I'm trying to close out the week, and it's sitting even better with me. I liked it before, but I could see myself putting it over the last three albums in time. Maybe even Endgame. The end of "Forty Days" felt specifically cathartic today. May just be out these specific speakers are EQ'd (very close to the Harmen curve), but I really have no issue with how most of it sounds at all.

I’ve been writing grants to this album quite a bit recently. I enjoy it.
