Awake Too Long is one of their most underrated songs. It has heavy Sufferer vibes. Zero Visibility, People Live Here, and Bridges are good songs too. I’m even partial to the title track. All in all though, Appeal To Reason and Nowhere Generation have been the two albums post Sufferer that I always return to. This new on grew on me because Im forcing myself to enjoy something new from one of my all time favorite bands and songwriters. But the production and the fact that Tim’s vocals are sharp in every single song makes it a frustrating listen. Love the album art though. Tim said no CGI or anything like was used. So that’s cool.
3 full listens so far and I think I like about 1/2 of the songs here. First 2 are great then gets weird in the middle and closes pretty well. Definitely not their best output. Band just sounds utterly exhausted on this album
I just completed my first listen and I feel like this wasn't nearly as bad as I was led to believe. The only outright bad song imo was Forty Days. That chorus just didn't work at all for me. I agree that the production takes a lot of the energy out of the album though. It's an alright album but I'm not sure how many times I'll revisit it.
This album sounds best with my AirPods. It sounds so so so bad in my car speakers, which blows my mind because they’re JBL speakers. I have to EQ the crap out of it, but that also means I have to re-eq when I want to hear something else. Anyways, after couple days with this thing… good songwriting, cool darker aesthetic, poor delivery sound wise. Nod Damage is Done Us Against The World Black Crown Gold Long Gone Soldier Prizefighter (grew on me) All top notch songs, imo. I just don’t know if I will ever get over how unfinished/demo sounding this thing sounds.
I’ve been enjoying this, but I threw on Siren Song after and holy FUCK what a stone cold classic. Just on another level.
last 2 tracks on this are stinkers but there's solid stuff on here Black Crown & Sink Like A Stone is a good pair
Siren Song is a very, very good album I just wish it could get the Bill Stevenson remaster treatment like The Unraveling got because, to bring this full circle, Garth Richardson's recording of Tim's vocals is the only negative on that album.
I will never not think Siren Song is perfect. The idea of changing anything on that album feels sacrilege.
Love Siren Song. Banger after banger on that record. No skips at all. The rawness in Tim's voice during those days was something else.
Siren Song sounds absolutely filthy, the guitar tones, Tim's gritty vocals... I wouldn't change anything about it.
Spent all day writing a grant and listening to this band's discography and even with some clunkers....I quickly remembered why I love them so much. Bad Religion is my all time favorite punk band, but these guys are definitely in the 2 or 3 spot for me.
top of my head while at the gym: Bad Religion - Suffer Lagwagon - Hoss Strung Out - Twisted by Design A Wilhelm Scream - Ruiner Pennywise - About Time
Yeah, I agree that Siren Song is basically perfect. I discovered them during that era and I think that almost every song on that album has been my favourite at different times. There are only a few albums that have managed that for me. The production still feels as heavy as it did back then.
