I don’t really dislike any of the new songs despite them being nowhere near their best, but the production/mix continues to baffle me. The songs feel hollow and lifeless
I see Rise Against committed the greatest album rollout sin and released the opener and closer as the first lead singles. Nod/Prizefighter
That is absolutely just a foo fighters song haha. Not what I want from this band necessarily but I don’t think it’s bad at all. It’s more interesting than how safe they’ve been playing the last few records.
They are legends and have 3 stone cold classics so I will always give their new album a listen. To be honest though since Endgame I listen and then whether I like it or not I forget and move on pretty quickly. I'm prepared to enter this new one into the 'didn't like it then forgot all about it' category but would be pleasantly surprised if it was more of a 'like it then forgot'.
Best song of the 3. I'm really liking the aesthetic of the new era. I'll always support these guys no matter how they sound because I've always been more drawn to their lyric content, which is rare for me because I almost always listen to the instrumentation first.
Listened to all three songs today since I hadn't checked out any and the reactions in this thread piqued my interest. "I Want It All" is absolutely a Foo-ass song and is possibly my favorite of the three just cause I love the energy and the swing of doing something different. "Nod" and "Prizefighter" are both fine, "Nod" being the better of the two. It just feels like more Rise Against. I've never, ever understood production quibbles and probably never will. I don't find anything wrong here at all.
something about the production, artwork, slight style change and uh polarization of the new stuff reminds me of the new underoath album in a weird way so now the tour feels a lot more fitting to me lol
What sounds weird? I did notice that it sounded more like "singing into a microphone" than I'd expect, if that's what you mean.
Yeah that's pretty much what I meant lol. Instead of sounding clean and crisp it has that echoy sound.
I guess I get why someone might be turned off. To me it just feels like I'm listening to him in the recording booth.
I get the hate on the vocals (and releasing the opener/closer as the first two singles... huge pet peeve), but these songs have me really interested to hear more. I Want It All is more interesting than just about everything they've done since Endgame. Who cares if it sounds like Foo Fighters. They've been making music for over 25 years, god forbid they try leaning into the alt rock sound and try something fresh. The song I'm most excited to hear is Black Crown. Tim was on a podcast last week and confirmed that Andy Hull is featured.
I mean, I’m happy they’re trying something new but there’s nothing about these songs that is making me want to come back to them right now. Hoping that changes when I listen to everything in context.
