Don’t know what else matt and Alan have done but those are the ones who are mixing and mastering it

I don’t give a shit who produces it but both of these songs sound like ass

Catherine Marks is a great producer too, Manchester Orchestra’s A Black Mile to the Surface sounds immaculate for example… the way these sound is definitely a deliberate choice for better or worse.

Song itself is really cool imo, feels fresh for the band.

I like it. I also liked nod. I haven’t had a problem with either song. Yeah the production is different but that’s cuz they used a different producer

What is with the vocals. They sound bad

This sounds weak. In the literal sense. Voice incredibly thin and warbling with the echo effect and it's too clean maybe.

Super forgettable. Nowhere Generation was a top 10 Rise Against track for me. These two ain't even going to get 10 listens from me.

  14. I can't help but think of The Gaslight Anthem once again. The effects on the vocals and the way Tim sings, which is also different, have a lot to do with that. Reminds me of The Gaslight Anthem's early, punkier material.

Not particularly memorable though. Hope they've got more to offer on the record.

I unfortunately agree that the production is weak. Catherine Marks is a competent producer and I love A Black Mile to the Surface but I don't see how that somehow would automatically make these songs sound good. It's a shame because I can tell that I'd probaly love Prizefighter if it sounded better.

But of course that's subjective. I, for example, love The Used's The Canyon and think it's the only good thing they've done since Lies for the Liars, but it seems like most of their fans can't stand the production on that album.

I personally thought this was much better than Nod, with the exception of the ending which I felt was a bit abrupt.

    He came, he saw.

Not excited for this like I would have been in the 00s. These new songs aren't helping!

  18. Alan Moulder has a lot of cool credits - Siamese Dream, tons of NIN, half of Hot Fuss.

  19. Honestly the production is the least of my concern. Something just isn't clicking about the songwriting. They're masters at writing killer verses that often lead to huge choruses. Here the verses just feel flat, and there isn't anything that truly gets my attention. It's all just... there.

Another big miss for me. 0/2 unfortunately.

This new one and Nod aren’t bad songs. But dang, the production isn’t doing them any favors. It’s just not complimenting the strengths of this band in this new direction.

it’s like…good writing vs bad production. Who wins?

Still excited for new RA. Think I’ll listen to Black Market today lol

I’m sure this new song will pop off live and sound good just like what happened with nod

live version of nod is good

This feels like a better song than nod, but it manages to make nod look better by comparison, despite still not being quite what I want from the band.

The constant echo/tremolo effect on the vocals really takes away from whatever the lyrics might be – I genuinely can’t make half of them out. Considering lyricism is one of the bands calling cards, that feels like a miss!

Pretty sure you could read them on what ever app you are using. Apple Music has the lyrics up that scroll as the song progresses
