Quick count, without checking every single band and article, and just going off the ones I know and remember, it's a little over 40% for the last 3 days.

(Articles by, about, or about bands that are not all straight white males.)

If we don't identify the problems and the actors involved, how are we supposed address the problem? It seems to me that men who want understanding and support for their sexist or misogynistic views do not comprehend that this understanding and support is implicit in the architecture of our everyday life; in fact, within this call for such things is the acceptance of a reality in which women suffer under these violent experiences.

Here's to hoping for some decent aftershows because outdoor music festivals will generally always be a terrible time for me personally.

yeah, i got about a 2:1 ratio but that was before i saw your edit of the non-straight white male thing. definitely better than some sites (cough alt press/heavy music sites). of course all of those articles were about paramore though (KIDDING!)

i just think we shouldn't be totally against (constructive) criticism as a whole. now a lot of these posts were doing nothing but deflecting the issue which makes everything worse, and i know you are aware that it needs work and there were merits to some of the things people were saying (though the way they were bringing them up is invalidated by their earlier arguments)

and just as a general note to the thread:

in the last year and a half or so after talking to a bunch of people (especially women/nb/queer/poc/victims of abuse) this has generally just become one of my biggest passions, trying to foster inclusivity within music scenes (and especially DIY scenes) and creating situations in which those people feel both safe and included. i've done my best to call out situations as i've seen and i know i'm not perfect, but when women/other voices keep getting drowned out and they already have to deal with everyone speaking over them all the time, i'm very okay absorbing horrible posts such as the ones in here/tour forum. without speaking up about these issues things won't change. i don't care if you don't want to see posts about this, until things change these posts will happen and should happen

And again, I'm not saying we're anywhere close to where I wanna be, but we're getting there. And it's by literally setting a goal I wanna hit each day.

I actually think there's more active female contributors/helpsrs than male at the moment on the site, but that would shift depending on who has submitted articles on any given week or who I guess is considered active, and cause Deanna and Jackie have submitsd a lot of stuff recently and my assistant helping with the books. (And I'd love even more from contributors, hit me up via email if youre not a white guy and can or wants to write)

I've never been to Riot Fest before but have been to Warped. How spread out is everything at Riot? Are the stages a ways away from each other? Is it usually insanely packed everywhere/hard to get around from stage to stage?

There's the "life isn't fair" response. Lol. Why even talk if you're gonna say something like that?

I'm also not sure what "suburban bubbles" have to do with any of this, but what a gross generalization.

I've never lived in a suburb in my entire life, am grossly aware of how unfair life is, and still don't see the big deal about wanting to see more non-male artists get the spot light. Seems obvious to me.

I think a lot of people who have replied to this thread don't get that it's possible for a person (like, oh...say me for example) to be excited by some aspects of this lineup and want to see and support some of the artists playing and planning to go while still being disappointed that there aren't more non-male artists on the bill. Not that complex of a thought but I guess it trips some ppl up who see things only in absolutes I dunno

For me the bummer is we can have this discussion until we're blue in the face, but there is 0 incentive for these festivals to change as long as ticket sales come in. I think Riot Fest would be open to this feedback though, they have done some cool, positive things in the past that would ACTUALLY adversely affect their bottom line.
