Great to see we can be marked "safe" from Limp Bizkit for another year. Fred Durst has done an impressive job acting like he wasn't a huge misogynistic piece of shit in the early 2000s without ever having to actually atone for any of it in a meaningful way. It will never not bother me that he was a 30 year-old man lying in a very public way, for an extended period of time, about teenage pop stars fucking him. No amount of "dressing up like a janitor" or claiming it was a wrestling bit or whatever uncreative, lazy bullshit he's doing now will cover that up for me. Sonically, I understand the appeal of the band (and that new single slaps). I just remember hearing him say that shit in interviews all over the place when I was in high school and thinking it was a creepy thing to joke about. So I'll forever be glad Riot hasn't booked them yet.
There's a few bookings each year that bother me for similar (or worse) reasons. But most people here aren't begging for those bookings years on end (and most are asking for them to stop). Just irritates me that this particular band seems to get a pass for whatever reason.

LOL Anyway, we're veering into accountability territory here but that Limp Bizkit thing just irks me because if it were a current 30 year-old saying that shit about an 18 year-old pop artist...The standard would be different. But it's cool because "Break Stuff slaps" or whatever. Regardless, I probably shouldn't have posted it in here in the first place, TBH. Weak moment for me on a bad mental health day.
Still a good discussion to have, even if it's outside of the other thread. We should expect more of festivals which tout their punk bonafides but sometimes (often?) lack the guts to hold to them.
I don’t think so. It’s been 5 years and I think that’s long enough for a headliner to come back. NIN headlined in 2017 and then returned in 2022 (and they were supposed to be back sooner in 2021)
I know Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy’s R.E.M. tribute band have been floated around as a potential act before, so I think they’re now out. Chicago show happening a few days after Riot
Wide open Riot weekend too. I think we've got our first subheadliner and potential stage-closer! Such a fun get... And not surprised they're on the fest given Mould's history with them.
I know they've got a Metro show on the spring tour but I wouldn't hate them bringing back Thursday for a War All The Time or ACBTLD set. EDIT: Also, I could totally see a Bright Eyes / Sugar stage pairing with Radical/Rise.
I don't think I've ever heard of Sugar before, but Im all for Bright Eyes coming back. If they do a I'm Wide Awake/Digital Ash album play I can save myself the money for the NYC show.
If you like mid-tempo 90s alternative rock with fuzzy guitars, a strong sense of melody, and really great lyrics I'd check Sugar out. It's Bob Mould from Husker Du's band. I'd also go so far as to say that people who are into Basement, Tigers Jaw, Citizen, and all that sorta stuff would probably get into them... Clearly, I'm not at all biased and not at all hoping that this reunion brings them a significant amount of hype. LOL
Premiere: The Suicide Machines - "Thank You" - Riot Fest Look, I know it's just a song premiere but it means there's some connection there. Given that the band is touring on Destruction By Definition for at least part of the year (and presumably have a new album coming out before end of year) I think they would be a really great get for the fest this year. PS: The new song absolutely rips!
Death Cab's summer run (late May through early August) doesn't have a Chicago date. Puts them in play for Riot, I think. Not a lock but definitely a possibility.
I agree but some of their tour openers like Japanese Breakfast and Nation of Language would be happily welcomed by me.
Thought that was literally RF weekend for a second and I was like that is a crazy choice for them to compete directly, but ok the weekend before makes more sense
Well since people are throwing out predictions I'm going to take a big swing with mine. I really leaned into the fun and quirky side of the festival. I'll make another one closer to the announcement that's much more refined and realistic.
