They sent out a new email saying more announcements are "on the way".

The same email is pushing text sign-up to get the single day line-ups first so I'm assuming that's what'll be next to come.

A little surprised we haven't gotten the album plays yet...

Seeing that the Iron Roses and Rodeo Boys are touring together leading up to and after Riot Fest... Really wish Riot had locked in Rodeo Boys too!

Ok ok ok. I like the lineup more than I thought, even with all the repeats. Thanks Phoebe for having me go back and check. It’s gonna be a conflict party the whole weekend. PUMPED.

Need to hammer out the details but I'm like, 80% on going this year despite my initial reaction. :crylaugh:

Basically, if my biggest "problem" with a line-up is anxiety about having to choose between Haywire and Sincere Engineer or like, Social Distortion or Gogol Bordello? It's gonna be a fun time regardless. Besides that there's plenty of artists I've never seen before, or haven't seen in the last 5+ years that I'd enjoy seeing...

And one of my good friends lives out in Normal, IL and has been bugging me to visit him since he moved there. And he's going to the festival. So probably gonna spend a day out there with him and his family before we both head into Chicago for the weekend.

Working that in there really drove it home for me. And now I'm feeling pretty excited about it!

There's definitely repeats but the more I thought about it many of them would actually be "Fest firsts" for me. Or it had been years since I've seen them there... Rise Against, Social D, the Pixies, Bayside, and a few others have played multiple times before but I've not seen any of them perform more than a song or two there either never (Pixies, Social D) or in nearly a decade. So they're repeats but not necessarily for me. Hah.

Some of the repeats (like both of them) have only played the outdoor version of the festival at least a decade ago. The way people are talking makes it sound like every band has played within the last two years.

I think it's some of the "nearly every other year" 90s-ish punk rock acts that are driving that discourse. It does stick out like a sore thumb, especially with most of those having played within the last two years but yeah I don't think it's as egregious considering how niche the festival is.

I do want them to lean into newer artists and I do think even doing something like not booking Bad Religion two years in a row and bumping somebody else up to that tier could be good with some ripple effects too! Ditch BR and slot Pup up there. Then bump the Beths up a line. Subtle changes like that can go a long way.

But we're also talking about a niche festival. I don't want or need for them to branch out into different genres. They're stretching it plenty with some of these artists as it stands. Hah.

I think I will probably go at least one day this year. Would love to see The Beths, Remember Sports and The Format again so fingers crossed they are all (or at least 2/3) on the same day. There are others I am down to see, but those are my top 3. I've also never seen Jejune before (which tracks because I was 5 when they broke up lol) so it would be nice to cross them off the bucket list. Also, I've seen Algernon Cadwallader 3x since they reunited but will not pass up a fourth opportunity if possible.

Phoebe playing at the UC that Saturday is nice, I will probably go to that which works out since none of the headliners interest me enough to stick around and watch.

I took a look at the Riot Fest playlist last night and think we can assume the following album plays based on them only including tracks from these albums on the playlist (coupled with other shows/tours these artists are doing):

The Suicide Machines - Destruction By Definition
    Sugar - Copper Blue
Sex Pistols - Nevermind The Bollocks
    The Descendents - Everything Sucks
Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
Pup - The Dream Is Over

The only one that's an actual surprise is the Descendents but still...

It also strikes me as really strange that they only plugged in one Rise Against song and it's from Appeal To Reason. But that's neither here nor there. LOL

    Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy

Dang, I was anticipating a Losing Streak set from LTJ. That album turns 30 this year

I was/am really hoping for from here to infirmary. I would also love one from rise against but assumed that is a pipe dream anyway.

I’m just a hater and that’s ok. Just seeing Rise Against, Trio, Bad Religion, Descendents, Pennywise, TBS, Patti Smith, MOZ, and Elvis Costello again makes me feel like they could have put that money elsewhere. But if I’m that upset about less than 1/10th of the lineup, that’s a me problem! Im pumped regardless because there’s so much good stuff.

Still possible, would love that especially if they also did an aftershow

I think it’s very likely TBS will do Louder Now too

Definitely doesn't rule out an album play just kinda sticks out like a sore thumb when there's two tracks from an artist with multiple notable releases... And they're both from a single album.

Looking at it again, GWAR's got two from Scumdogs so that may be an album play as well.

Also just noticed that the Onion is a sponsor this year. Curious to see what all exactly they do with that one. LOL

They played it at Riot Fest back when it was at Congress theater. So I know they know how to play the album in full!

And now that I think about it, I think that might have been the first album play riot fest had (that I’m aware of).
