The Format are hinting at something Dog Problems related, I’m predicting that will be one of the play thrus
Riot kept up the fan mockery all day on Saturday. It's this week, for sure. LOL The Cure is undeniably the biggest one but I feel like they've had a few of those over the years. Not necessarily artists coming from overseas but... Artists that were thought impossible and/or were inactive in the US or otherwise. Excluding the obvious major reunions (the Replacements, the Misfits, and Jawbreaker) I think System of a Down, No Doubt, and the Prodigy were all pretty rare/exclusive gets in 2015. The Cure in 2014 was also pretty exclusive too! They also had a few over the years where Riot was the first to announce with more touring to follow. So I think folks assuming the headliners this year are going to be weak... Maybe they'll be right. But it also feels like there's always something fully random that nobody sees coming. That's where I'm at. It could be what people are predicting. But there's scenarios where even the most drab headliner assortment (21P, Tool, and MCR) could lead to pretty cool, interesting undercards.
I now realize I had no concept of how big Movements is. Didn't think they were anywhere near Salt Shed level. Switchfoot out as well - double bummer because their Chicago show is at House of Blues with fake Anberlin.
Took me a minute to see the Chicago date on that poster. Because the "H" goes right over it. It's transparent, but still feels like a graphic design fail. LOL
im sure this rules for who this is for, but that person is not me. i could enjoy saturday, but sunday is a whole lotta nothing for me
Yeah, I'd probably have a good time on Saturday and then only want to see I Promised The World on Sunday. Circa, Underoath, and Cartel all feeling even more likely at Riot now too.
That just doesn't feel like Furnace Fest to me. This is sort of exactly what people were expecting with the new ownership. Makes me glad Riot has never changed hands. Will still draw and do pretty well, I'm sure... And there's some greatness on here. It just doesn't feel very special.
Before this announcement I thought no way, but I'd say it's at least a consideration now. They don't have any shows on the 18th or 19th and are in Vancouver on the 20th so I could see a Friday set potentially
They've got a show in Rosemont this Friday (5/15) but that is fully sold out so I guess they could be in the mix. The only thing I would say is that they seem to be gunning for headlining slots and having them booked as a headliner ~4 months after playing somewhere relatively close would feel super underwhelming in the grand scheme of things. This is all to say that it's technically possible but doesn't seem very likely (though the album play could 'fix' that).
I feel like they're as good a guess as any at this point, though the logistics and timing of the Rosemont show make me lean no. But if we find out the lineup is coming next week, they feel more likely. I am actually surprised they haven't played since 2014.
The Plot in You being billed that high for the sunday to me is surprising. Did they just get back together or something?
Saturday is stacked. Sunday isn't really my cup of tea but I'd still have a good time. I haven't been keeping up with the story of Furnace Fest and if possible changes in ownership, but BMTH and ADTR are on a whole other level of draw than any headliner FF has ever had. Interesting shift.
Is Tricky possible? New tour has no Chicago date and playing Detroit a couple days before Riot weekend
I hope BMTH isn’t booked because then that means the lineup is likely getting released next week due to the Chicago show.
That definitely puts him in play, I think. He'd be lower on the bill looking at some of those venue sizes. But would still be a fun get for a very specific type of 90s person. But him getting added would be another great example of a solid addition that nobody was considering/discussing that will actually be a strong value-add for some people/the thing that pushes them from a "maybe" to a "I'll definitely be going."
The line-up coming next week would be such a bummer because I'll be at a conference Monday through Wednesday AM.
Just noticed that the language on BMTH's IG post about Furnace Fest says it's their first time playing that album in the US. Which rules Riot out as far as an album play is concerned so... Yeah, that makes me feel like it's way less likely they'll be on. If it turns out I've been a seer all this time...
