What if they actually did get Paramore?!?

I really hope they break the radius clause for Hayley, because having Magdalena Bay out now too feels like salt to the wound lol

Don't you dare get my hopes up!

That would be a decent consolation prize! But who?!! Gonna be keeping this in mind when the line-up drops.

Possibly. There's been a few cases like that over the years. Wasn't there something similar with the Jane's Addiction tour routing on that last one they did before falling apart?

That would be an impressive way for her to double-dip. :crylaugh: But I kinda doubt it... She seems hyper-focused on the solo stuff right now.

  4. Deftones is my guess.

    Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy

Yeah you’re right. It was 2024. That Jane’s/L&R tour lined them up perfectly to play Riot, but they ended up headlining Aragon instead

Another example is the infamous Tenacious D letdown of 2022 lol

Hayley would have been a great headliner or sub headliner option. Bummer that she is officially out AND that she is playing the worst venue in Chicagoland. I had high hopes she was in especially once she got announced for All Things Go.

Probably Morrissey if it happens. Unless David Byrne is somehow magically booked.

Listen if Deftones is indeed headlining she's totally pulling up

Ah, you're right! "Passenger." Good pull. I want/need that to happen now!

Oh yeah! The D situation too... This was less about tour routings but there was also that one year Good Charlotte was on an admat that leaked the day before but were gone the next day. I think that was 2015.

That one kinda blew my mind because it means they made it far in the negotiations before it fell through. I'm starting to wonder how much of this has to do with scheduling. All the bands that come up in the discussion around this are in the stage-closer or sub-closer category (of which there can be only 1-2 per stage; I can see that getting clogged and leading to some folks walking away if the artist wants X and the festival already has a person in that slot).

Agreed! I was also really hoping for her because there's no way I'm making the trek out/paying the prices for her MA show. Riot would have been a great opportunity to see her.

The GC thing was 2017, I think?

It also reminds me of Denver 2016 when someone (I think it was Laura Jane Grace?) accidentally posted an early copy of the lineup which had Devo listed playing a farewell tour, but they weren’t actually on the final lineup

Ah! You're right. It was 2017. In my head canon it was the 2015 poster for some reason... But somebody posted about it on these forums so I was able to pull the image from the old thread!

Forgot about that Devo thing! It's definitely ringing a bell now... Wild times...

The Suicide Machines just sent an email out saying they've got "a handful of places" to announce. The summer tour is pretty aggressive from July through September 20th. Then they've got a break until early December.

Making me feel a bit better about their odds for Riot Fest! Also wondering if they'll be hitting up the Fest and maybe Furnace Fest as well... Alongside some other east coast headlining dates in October (e.g., NYC, NJ, Philly, hopefully Boston proper).

Their behavior starting to ramp up more like this must mean next week.

I keep thinking about the people saying "there aren't any bands left." And I get that the headliner pool is small at this point (as it is every year, TBH) but...

I spent the day listening to a bunch of new music that came out today. The Flatliners, War On Women, Social Distortion, Basement, and Koyo. Kinda blown away that I went 5/5 with being like "fuck yeah, that was awesome!"

All five are viable for Riot and 4/5 aren't really being talked about all that much but would be fun adds.

I feel like Riot gets us all every year with like... Bands that are actively touring but just haven't dropped a fall tour yet. LOL

Basement would be such a great add. New record goes crazy.

It was just in 2024 that Basement played so I feel like they’re more likely to come here on a headliner, but I’d love to be wrong

I wasn't necessarily suggesting they would come back so soon but... That they were in play. And nobody was talking about them. And there are a whole ton of bands of that sort who would be great adds, draw people in, etc. But because they aren't headliners people aren't thinking about 'em.

And that's pretty much the case every year.

Could the Rolling Stones be in play as a headliner? No one has been talking about it and why would they, it’s ridiculous.

I’m really curious to see if this year’s lineup will be a more headliner-heavy year like 2023 and last year, or a more undercard-heavy, decent headliner year like 2024

Remember a couple years ago when we thought Greta Van Fleet was a lock? That reminds me a lot of the current 21 pilots thing. Like it could happen but it just doesn’t seem right.

I think we'll get one day that's very headliner-heavy but the other two will feel more like 2018, 2019, and 2024 where the headliners are a heavy draw but it's really the undercard that sells it.

I definitely remember that! I was very much in the "Riot would never" camp on that one. I don't blame people for thinking something similar around TOP but they're also coded a little different. GVF was catnip for people who like oLd SkOoL rAwK. TOP is more just a pop band for weirdos. Hah. Which, to me, is a key difference. Not hoping for them, personally, but also not willing to rule it out. LOL

But you raise a good point. The GVF thing was 2023. And that year we got... Two artists nobody was really speculating on because one was assumed to be out-of-reach (Foo Fighters) and the other wasn't doing any shows (the Cure). And Saturday was a trio of acts that people were thinking might be in play but weren't sure if they'd be headliner status.

Every year, Riot throws shit out there that catches everybody off guard.

The Cure playing 2023 was such a surprise. We all thought they were out because their summer tour hit Chicago and then they had no other shows after the US tour. Still wild they made the trek to Chicago from the UK for one show

I forgot that was 2023 and how insane that actually turned out. I guess anything is possible.
