Maybe they just booked Metallica and called it a day. Literally just Metallica playing one day. No other acts.
Reel Big Fish just announced a date in Colorado for August. So they aren't a Warped exclusive. I'm putting even bigger money on Riot for them now.
There was an email that went out to people on their mailing list that said more shows were to come. So I’m also betting on them
Rad! FWIW that show has some other artists that are in play (Sublime, the Gimme Gimmes, and Codefendants). And I could easily see all of those artists on the same stage. Not quite what I'd be hoping for in that context but y'know... Would be fun, regardless.
Not much of a ska person (less disinterest and more of a lack of knowledge,) but if Reel Big Fish is playing Riot Fest it's going to be a massive highlight.
The last time I saw RBF was at the tinley park warped tour in 2018. There was a blind guy in the mosh pit having the time of his life
Or... Ever? Hah. TBH, I'm not even that excited about it. I just know it'll be a fun set. And I'm pretty sure my weddings cocktail hour is going to kick off with "Take On Me" so it'll hit different the next time I see it live. For years I would see them every time they'd come around just because of how fun/silly the shows were. And they usually had decent bills too. But I stopped going for a few years. Then I saw them at Back to the Beach in 2019 and it was such a blast! Aaron looks much healthier and happier now, it's cool to see some of the old band back, etc. But I think the fact that it's one of the only "reunions" we have any insight into possibly coming to Riot this year without a formal tour announced is probably helping the chatter too. Like, Sugar and the Format feel pretty likely because of the tour routings. RBF is/was a bit of a question mark.
RBF is the band I’ve seen the most times (6!). And that’s not because I’m a huge mega fan. It’s just because they used to tour a bunch and would be on festival lineups that I’d end up attending. After a while I kinda decided I never really needed to see them again considering they do the same shtick and their setlists are usually the same. But honestly? If the opportunity came up, I’d consider seeing them again just for old time’s sake. Especially since Scott and Dan are back and I never got to see RBF with Scott in the band
Had I known Warped 2018 was going to be my last opportunity to see Reel Big Fish for almost a decade, I would have stuck around and watched them
I'm pretty sure that if I added up the headlining dates, Warped Tours, and other festivals I'd be able to say that I've seen them 20+ times since 2001 with Goldfinger, Home Grown, and Zebrahead. The schtick feeling old is pretty much why I stopped seeing them. That and the band just started to seem bored. I'd imagine taking some time off will have changed all that. So I'm sort of reinvigorated about it.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder! I last saw them in January of 2017 and felt that I could take a break from seeing them for a while. But I didn’t know the option would be taken away from me for so long! So now I’m excited to see them back at it!
E-mail they just sent out says in the subject line prices are increasing tonight, also says “You better grab those tickets now, something might be coming soon…” so most likely next week for the lineup.
Not sure I got that email, but I feel like a fool for secretly hoping they'd announce a li'l something along with the price hike/increase (assuming one actually comes).
