Under Soil and Dirt 15-year anniversary would be a big deal and also seems like something TSSF wouldn't do. Edit: Forgot they were on Lolla. Definitely would like to see TSL though.
My fiancée just texted me that she's putting in for days off around Riot Fest this year "just in case." So I took that as a sign to pre-book a refundable hotel from 9/17 through 9/21... I remain skeptical that this year will be "travel-worthy" for me but I'm pretty sure I also said that in 2024 which was pretty spot-on to my tastes overall. Better safe than overpaying, though, and infinitely more invested in the speculation than I was 20 minutes ago. LOL
On his latest podcast today, Mike Herrera talked about having a "pacific northwest" show in August. But didn't reference anything else coming for September. He's got a tendency to tease/hint at announcements so that makes me think they don't have any announcements other than that one coming up soon... Not a sure thing but add them to the pile of "probably not and really hope I'm wrong" for now.
Hah, probably should have been clearer... That is just in regards to MxPx. Goldfinger is still in play as far as I can tell.
Beck tour hits Chicago on 10/9. I don't think folks were assuming he'd be coming back so soon, anyway, but safe to say that he's out more formally now.
Another tidbit: Supernova Ska has two last headliners to announce in the coming weeks. Apparently they "took a couple of very big swings that ultimately didn't land" so they're scrambling to finalize things with new headliners. Not sure we'll get much on what the "big swings" were and I'm sure they'll have no problem getting a more 'typical' headliner with fest history on board (e.g., the Suicide Machines, Hepcat). But it does make me wonder what we might see in the coming weeks... This makes me think it was a reunion or a pretty rare "get." Or just a slightly bigger/more expensive artist than usual (e.g., Rancid, Goldfinger). I could see something like Reel Big Fish or Doom Regulator be in the mix and then just not landing for one reason or another. But could see those same artists easily getting slotted in for Riot.
Sex Pistols are pretty much a lock. Patti Smith and Morrissey both played that pre-show thing a few years back so... I feel like they might be in the mix. Would be a major bummer if either of those two took up a second line slot on the poster. Both for very different reasons. LOL Interpol and Bikini Kill are both out because of other Chicago shows. Think we can likely rule out Militarie Gun and Agnostic Front because they played last year; Buzzcocks too as they recently played two years in a row ('23 and '24). Circle Jerks played CMH in February and have been on the road most of the year so kinda doubt they come back to Chicago but wouldn't rule it out completely. Haywire would be an amazing, very viable get for the festival this year. One of those "book 'em now early in the day before they blow up even further on the next album" sorta deals. Would love to see High Vis and Mannequin Pussy too! Both have levelled up a bit since their last RF appearance.
On the plus side, if they book Morrissey all he needs to do is get a little sleepy for him to drop off. EDIT: Sorry. He wouldn't drop off. Or cancel. "Circumstances would render performance impossible." Fucking dork ass cornball.
I am expecting Mannequin Pussy, they've teased more dates for the fall and I don't think the Foo Fighters opening date matters.
Same! I'm still rolling my eyes a bit at that one interview Missy did toward the end of last year where she said they would be "taking a long break." Think they got a second wind with this album and are just going for it... Which is dope. They deserve it. I love that you posted this and didn't bother to note that Failure might be in the mix for Riot based on that tour routing!
Don't want Morrissey, but at least it's an easy choice to see someone else or head home early. Pretty sure they'll keep booking him until he finally wants to do a Smiths reunion at Riot. Would love to see Failure, Mannequin Pussy, and Haywire though.
You know me so well LOL. I actually didn’t mention it because I assumed they were already out due to Space Echo on May 1st. Unless if Riot announces after that instead?
Chicago promoters out to get me specifically on June 26. Guster, Mountain Goats, and Future Teens are all in town that day.
