  1. Would much rather have this anyway, and mostly because I like Frank Carter.

    Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy

Pet Theory: Nine Inch Noize will be playing and Riot’s lineup will be announced next week right after Coachella wraps up

whatever they have they know they can compete with LTL to a point where they don’t need to announce it right away. So it’s gotta be pretty good right?

when the lead up is this uneventful, almost makes you miss the days of 2 locations switches in one year, haha

i dont have enough confidence in any direction for a prediction, but i think the 3 headliners (not including mystery reunion) that would have me the most excited would be:
Panic (every time ive seen them its been incredible)
MCR (im a firm believer that the chaos from last time was an alignment of circumstances that would not happen again)
Tool (mostly only love Aenima, but have never seen them and feel like i should at least once)

i know thats not a popular opinion but i gotta live my truth! deftones would be fun but i just saw them so i personally dont feel the need to again so soon.

Also Hayley Williams would be a cool candidate for the Side Stage Curator + Headliner, if that tradition continues

  6. Panic is a good call. Kind of forgot they were briefly back last year and I'd be happy to see them again for the first time since the initial Blink reunion tour.

The line-up consistently dropped in May until last year (with 2017 as an exception) so they've never been worried about LTL or any other festival in that same date range, really.

I think it's because they're in a relatively specific niche. I'm sure there's people who choose between a bunch of festivals and go but I feel like Riot also has a huge number of people who are basically in the "Riot or bust" camp.

Honestly, the years without an eventful lead-up and some pretty locked down surprises tend to be the best ones!

This year, I think we have a solid mix of ~6 artists that are in the running as potential headliners that (whether you like the headliner we're speculating on or not) could produce a pretty fun, unique undercard.

But I'm still convinced it's going to be 2 of that 6 with one wildcard that nobody is thinking on (even if that one winds up being a dual-headliner situation or a repeat from previous years).

Panic! is a pretty good catch, too Completely blanked on them!

I thought Morrissey didn’t play because sleepy and cheeseburgers?

Spin the wheel and find your reason why Morrissey didn't play a show, you'll never get the same reason twice!

The Suicide Machines doing Destruction By Definition on a tour with the Bouncing Souls. It's got four different legs (July, September, December, and February) none of which touch Chicago. The September run has a 9/18 date in Cincinatti, OH and a 9/20 date in Milwaukee, WI.

So they feel like a lock for Saturday, 9/19.

That would mean six shows in a row for them. Normally, I'd be less bullish about that. But they have similar runs on the European tour this summer. So... Yeah. Feels like this could be the year!

If we don't get Operation Ivy, then at least we get an OpIvy Tribute Band? LOL

  13. Most importantly, Strike Anywhere is on the leg that would go through Riot!

Oh, dope! I didn't even pick up on that! Exciting times. Haha. Something tells me Thomas might be a little bit less willing to do six shows in a row compared to Jay, though... (Not to be a downer; just trying to keep it real :-/)

  15. Souls did play last year too though right? And the other legs have TBA dates blacked out. So maybe not? But please give me Strike Anywhere.

Yeah, the Souls played last year. My thought is that it's just the Suicide Machines that might be doing Riot so it wouldn't make sense to include on that poster but one of the blacked out dates on that December run could be Chicago (TBA closer to Riot).

Or maybe they aren't playing at all and I'm just overexcited today?

EDIT: As a total aside it's nice to see a tour poster with multiple legs and openers that clearly and easily delineates who is on what leg of the tour.

    Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy

Didn’t the Souls do an album play last year? It’d be weird if they played two years in a row, but I could see them doing it again if they’re just playing standard set

that tour is loaded and im sad its not coming to STL. Also a reminder for me that i also very much want a Death by Stereo appearance at Riot, theyve been on my bucket list for a long time now,

Yeah, just to be clear... I'm thinking it's just the Suicide Machines (if anything). If the Souls and them were on it there would likely be a blacked out date for 9/19.

Death By Stereo would be sick! Makes me wish they'd go back to having Rebel because they would be a perfect late afternoon band for that stage. Would pair nicely with Rise Against, TBH. Much earlier in the day, obviously. But still.

Would be really nice if we got Machines and Strike Anywhere for saturday

I'd love for the souls to play too but yeah I feel like they won't since they did last year. Weird they'd skip chicago though

I could see one of the blacked out December dates near Ohio being Chicago with them waiting until after Riot to announce because of the Suicide Machines.

And as far as having so many days in a row, it probably helps having two of them being as close as Chicago and Milwaukee are.

I’ve seen them play the album twice already (once at a Riot secret show), but I would still be up for seeing it again!
