Based on the headliners and artists that we're pretty sure are locks right now it's feeling like this may be a "cool, but not unique enough to vacation to" year for me. But I've said that in years prior and wound up going based on the undercard and the headliner speculation being wrong. Haha. So we'll have to wait and see... Operation Ivy would lock me in instantly. But I refuse to get my hopes up for that again unless we start hearing rumblings. LOL
If they get Op Ivy it would be cool if they could get Slapstick too. Tie that in with 30 years of Losing Streak and Destruction By Definition and you got quite the 90s ska/punk stage
Not a headliner, but have we talked about the Format playing. Feels like kind of a no brainer now that we know they're not on Lolla and their Chicago show is in a few weeks.
I forget who it was (maybe @KindaFatMike?) but whoever said Angine de Poitrine might be in the mix - their US tour ends on 9/16 with nothing in the midwest. Feeling pretty likely... Slapstick won't ever happen again as per Brendan. Because the last time they played Riot Fest he said the word "titties' on-stage and somebody in the band got mad at him? But still. Operation Ivy plus the Suicide Machines doing Destruction would be amazing. There's a whole run of possibilities there that could make for a fun stage. The neat thing about OpIvy and the Suicide Machines is that, yeah, you can do some ska-punk stuff but you can also throw in hardcore, reggae, trad-ska, melodic punk, etc. Loads of options for a cool, fun undercard! I could see it. Would make strong direct support on Riot/Roots or a stage closer elsewhere.
I think you nailed it. They announced their first US dates and they look like this: SEPTEMBER 9 – New York, NY – Le Poisson Rouge (SOLD OUT) 10 – New York, NY – Le Poisson Rouge (SOLD OUT) 15 – Washington, DC – The Atlantis * 16 – Philadelphia, PA – Underground Arts *
if they are on the lineup, that’s a booking I would genuinely love to know the timeline on - like was riot aware of them before most and booked super early in the process, but now have to move them up on the poster and stage time because they’ve blown up recently or was there a mad scramble to book them once they blew up lol
Also just putting this out there into the ether: 311 is available and seems to be mostly just doing US festivals this year. They have Ocean's Calling in MD the weekend after Riot. 311 with Wu-Tang would be an awesome Radical/Rise stage pairing. Especially if it were counter programming to a Strokes-focused main stage.
The only scenario where I’d be thrilled for 311 to play is if The Strokes are headlining and they’re the counter programming.
Caught this on Reddit: The cancelled Stray Cats 2025 tour has been re-scheduled... And both the Rockford, IL and Gary, IN dates aren't on the itinerary. The tour ends in mid-August. Could see them on the fest and would work nicely on a stage with Social D.
Can't remember if they've been mentioned in here but Bilmuri and Knuckle Puck are both essentially locks based on routing
Unless I’m missing something, Bilmuri just doesn’t have LTL listed on their tour dates for some reason. KP technically does have the off day since they aren’t on LTL, but I’d be surprised if they played two years in a row (wouldn’t complain though). Maybe an aftershow?
Bilmuri is playing the Aragon may 1st. Don’t know if they come back on the 2nd leg of the tour edit:they are playing louder than life Saturday which was their only open date that weekend so they are actually out
311 and Wu Tang Clan are out. Just announced their own tours today with Chicago and Tinley Park dates respectively
311 and Dirty Heads are out. Co-headlining tour hits Chicago in July Wu Tang is also out. Tinley Park show in early September
Already having riot being when it is, and my Dolly Parton rescheduled show on 9/26… my sept just got crazy now that I have to now also figure travel to either KC or Chi for both the wu-tang/bone thugs show AND the TLC/saltnpeppa/envogue show that are both skipping St. Louis… so much driving
Saw that Punk Fest lineup. Diesel Boy doing a “Cock Rock” album play could possibly be an undercard booking.
The Strokes are doing Sea.Hear.Now on Sunday, 9/20 in addition to Shaky Knees on Friday, 9/18 That means if they're on Riot they'd have to be Saturday. But I think them being on the Jersey festival makes them a bit less likely for Riot. Not impossible obviously just... Way less likely.
It seems like a lot of the potential headliners will be doing 3 festival dates in a row or these aren’t our headliners.
Between that schedule and the rumored hold at Tinley, I'm thinking Strokes are out too. Same with Fontaines DC, who I thought was pretty likely before Sea Hear Now. Not a headliner, but Moby would be an interesting, different booking.
This year seems very ambiguous on the locks. Honestly have no clue who could be playing other than Rise Against and Trio.
