They did something like this in 2019 with Bikini Kill headlining and the rest of the mainstage were all women-fronted bands.
The warning and wet leg are likely on lolla. The warning just played riot in 2024. Wet leg are on a bunch of other c3/ live nation fests this years
On the younger/newer end of the spectrum: Mannequin Pussy, Gouge Away, War On Women, Destiny Bond, the Iron Roses, Spaced, Scowl, Initiate, or Babe Haven would all be awesome adds for a stage like that. I've got a longer wish list but... These ones feel like they have a better possibility than the others. If we do get hole I would fully expect L7 to be in the mix since members are friendly with Courtney. And would be a nice excuse to finally pull in Veruca Salt or Letters to Cleo.
If we get Deftones... I've always felt like Deftones closing Riot and Garbage closing Roots would be nice too. Mannequin Pussy and PVRIS would pair nicely with both artists. Dream Fatigue, Fleshwater, and Initiate too. Just putting that out there into the ether as well... I know Garbage said they're done touring but unless I misunderstood the statements or missed something completely (probably did) that doesn't mean they won't play festivals.
All great choices for the younger side. And even if this doesn’t happen, biggest hope is veruca salt because I need to hear Volcano Girls live at least once in my life, one of most underrated bangers of the 90s
Isn't Mannequin Pussy out due to the Foo Fighters tour? Yeah, August 8th. So unless it's not a problem, which sometimes it's not, they're out.
Veruca Salt and Local H are two glaring Chicago omissions from the festival line-up over the years... And I'm unironically shocked the Iron Roses haven't been booked. But they're also the kind of artist that would just make me wish we had the small "Rebel" stage because of their live show.
Coin-toss, IMHO. I could see them being allowed to double-dip given the size of MP in contrast to the size of the venue they're playing with the Foos. They're the opener-opener there and would be a late afternoon slot for Riot so I feel like the fest would be fine with it... Might actually be a benefit. But all depends on how they want to do the math. LOL Either way, I think I just got overexcited about the Hole thing and started wishcasting stage designations.

I think that’s a cool idea but I think you’d have to spread them out and not relegate them all to one or two stages so it doesn’t look like you’re just throwing a lot of the female acts on one stage, even if sound wise they all fit together.
That being said, they really do need to do a better job including acts with women in them. I think the last time a women led band headlined was…Bikini Kill? (Unless we are counting the Postal Service). And then No Doubt before that. So it’s been a while. Not sure who is big enough to fit aside from Courtney Love/Hole though.

I think it depends on the vibe/fit. Having a stage curated around a riot girl-type aesthetic would work okay without feeling forced but... I definitely agree. You don't want to stop at just the one stage. I think it's a balancing act. What I'd like to see happen is having some of the punk, hardcore, etc. festivals (including Riot) bump certain artists up a slot or two. That's how you demonstrate growth to people (and "fake it 'til you make it" very much applies in terms of whether or not people will give your band a shot). What has really bummed me out the last few years is seeing there being relatively strong femme-presentation early in the day and then it tends to drop off. You need to give artists a chance to grow... Higher festival placement is something bookers pay attention to, can be used to bump up venue sizes on tour, etc. So even if it's not headliners, I think working artists toward headliner status is beneficial.
There’s a lot of great woman fronted bands Riot can book. Siouxsie Sioux, Men I Trust, Confidence Man (Janet Planet rules), Magdelana Bay, Die Spitz and The Go-Go’s would fit in that have never been booked. A “girl” only stage seems forced and very 2016. Why not mix them in across all the stages whether they headline or not?

I am assuming we get some sort of line-up announcement in April. Considering most fests happening before, during, and after Riot have already dropped it only makes sense. So "soon" would technically still work. Haha.
I am still very curious who this supposed reunion Riot Mike was talking about in 2024 (quote posted below for anyone who needs a refresh on what he said) is going to be, assuming it actually comes to fruition. “I think in 2 years there's going to be an awesome reunion... it's amazing. But that first conversation happened in 2016. He said if he'd ever do it, it would be with me.” I was now thinking maybe Modern Baseball with Bren Lukens announcing a show opening for Jeff Rosenstock, but they disbanded in 2017 so they wouldn't have been having reunion/future of the band conversations in 2016.
Part of me feels like it’s the Sugar reunion. Bob Mould played Riot in 2016. But at the same time, I’m not sure if that reunion would warrant that type of hype? Who knows
