I don’t think she would headline. In your scenario I think she would be in the Turnstile spot. But probably more likely to close a different stage like Paramore did when they played. I think she’s definitely a strong possibility though

Have a guy at LN that gives me chicago tour dates when they pop up on his calendar.

some notable dates based on this convo.

Danny Elfman has a date mapped for like 2 weeks before Riot in Chicago.
Gorillaz have a date in chicago early October.
Strokes have a hold on a date at Tinley park for June. Holds arent confirmed and sometimes artists change plans for fests so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ with that one for now. Just know they originally were planning standalone chicago date.

    Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy

Someone on Reddit is claiming that Gogol Bordello announced at their Chicago show tonight that they’ll be playing Riot this year

Interesting info! Rules out Elfman and Gorillaz for sure and will be curious to see what happens with the Strokes...

Was just coming in here to post the same thing except I saw it in a FB group. A great, albeit pretty standard, edition!

    idk man

Am I dreaming too much to think the headliners could be Tool on Friday, Deftones on Saturday, and MCR on Sunday or does this seem plausible

Seems attainable from a "could they afford it" perspective. Them booking Tool and Deftones would be the first time they've booked two metal/hard rock headliners but... They're both very Riot-coded with crossover appeal.

The only US fest Deftones have this year is SNW in October after they've already hit most of the others in the past few years. So I could see it. Riot would be a nice holdover between their ex-US dates in the summer and SNW.

MCR I'm a little hedgier on just because they played the fest a few years back and they played Chicago last summer.

    Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy

I don’t think having both Tool and Deftones as headliners would be super far-fetched. Last year they did dual punk/pop punk headliners (Blink and Green Day), so two Metal-adjacent bands would work, I think.

Tool/The Strokes/Deftones would be a solid line of headliners

If they play riot fest it will be Sunday

That’s because they are still much more of a punk fest than a metal fest. Those three as headliners wouldn’t do much for me and I would possibly skip them all. It wouldn’t be the first time I am not very worried about the headliners though.

I think both Tool and Deftones lean enough in that direction for it to make sense. Especially if they have a strong Rebel/Rise or Radicals stage-closer on those nights. You could throw hip-hop, punk, hardcore, metal, emo, or whatever before either of those bands as headliners and it would work just fine.

I'm not saying I think it would happen. Just that it could and it wouldn't be weird if it did. Haha. Of the three being discussed, Deftones are the only one I'd want to stick around and watch in full at this point.

But like you said: Wouldn't be the first time. Haha. The biggest draw for me is usually the sub-headliners and below, anyway.

Lock 'em in! Makes sense given the cancellation last year. Would also pair reasonably well with a non-punk headliner for their day. Much better than any of the three headliners we had last year, TBH.

Curious to see who they slot in for support given all the older UK punk bands they had last year. There's plenty of options... Just curious to see how they handle it.

I could see a mix of Cock Sparrer, Subhumans, Fear, The Chisel and Skinhead. The Damned coming back is fine since they sound so great live.

Yeah I'm really hoping Cock Sparrer is on, feels pretty likely

Definitely seems likely given that they have a Boston date on 9/25. That would be an incredibly underwhelming "punk" stage for me on the high-end.

But the support has a lot of potential! Haywire, Home Front, Skinhead, and/or No Guard would all be fun adds.

No Chicago on the Beach Bunny x The Beths tour. It’s in August and on the West Coast but I could see more dates added into September with a stop at Riot Fest.

Didn't see the Boston tour date for Cock Sparrer? But would be a dream for them to be back.

Also, from the ones mentioned: Home Front, The Chisel, Skinhead and No Guard. Not mentioned but would love: Violent Way, Fuerza Bruta

Everything I see says Cock Sparrer’s Boston date is next month. And they say on Facebook that it is their last US date this year. So I think we can probably count them out.

This is unironically great news. Also explains why they're playing a 3k cap venue here.

    Potential headline material sneaking in?

I’d love a ‘Lilith fair but angry’ taking over Riot & Roots one day- hole, bikini kill, garbage, sleater Kinney, veruca salt, L7… newer stuff like the warning, wet leg, die spitz, etc..

As much as this needs to happen thanks to Pitchfork ending and how much they tried to include female acts on the bill - I don't expect anything close from Riot Fest.
