I'm fully prepared for rain. My partner and I both have our re-usable ponchos packed and we just ordered a pair of shoe covers. So we'll be good either way. Haha. Looking at the general pattern here, I'm not convinced we'll make it all weekend without a single rain shower but it's already looking better! Of course that means my plans for Monday are mostly cooked because the storm has kicked out a bit but... Ah well.
Email today with box office hours. I'm not sure if they've ever done this before or not but... Looks like they'll be doing early pick-up for wristbands on Thursday this year from 2-8pm). Box office opens at 11am all the other days. Really wanna try to convince my partner to pop over there on Thursday afternoon. Getting them in-hand makes the entire morning feel a little smoother.
the cubby bear show now might be jack white. Someone got guaranteed entry tickets to the show and tagged jack white. q101 reposted it but it has since been deleted or it expired
at this point i have no fucking clue who the cubby bear show is going to be given everything that has been rumored/teased
I think it was pretty much soft-confirmed a while ago that it was the Ataris based on stuff said on Q101 promoting the show (ad used a clip of "Boys of Summer" and the copy referenced the Black Flag sticker/cadillac lyric). The way stations would promote a performance for somebody like Jack White is much more how they did the Green Day thing (let people know whose playing and give tickets away in advance). The Ataris makes much more sense for this kind of thing.
they also said it was a surprise who was playing and they wouldn't say who. also the show has 3 sponsors. most of their pop up shows only have 1. also the song and shit could just be a misdirect. also the only way into the green day lounge thing is by listening to q101. completely different so of course they would say something about it.... the cubby bear show is free and first come first serve. even if you have a ticket off the website you aren't guaranteed entry also if it was the ataris i feel like they would just say its them... no need to keep it a secret
Radio stations truly don't think that hard about these things. And, TBH, the last thing you'd want is a bunch of people showing up expecting one thing and getting the other. If it were Jack White they would be giving away tickets similar to the Green Day thing. Not saying who it is sparks speculation... But then, yeah, you don't "say" who it is. But you aggressively hint at it to encourage the right people to come. It's pretty common practice across the industry for shit like this. You don't want people showing up and then leaving, being pissed, etc. So you have to say something. If Jack White were doing a show he'd just kinda do it. He doesn't need (and never really uses AFAIK) local radio stations to put on his surprise gigs. People are really coping hard on this for some reason despite it obviously not being the case.
So basically the same layout as last year with a few minor tweaks to bar positions, etc. I'm also noticing they moved the deluxe/VIP entrances back a bit? I'm not sure how that works because the way it's moved makes it seem like the entrance access advantage will be minimal. But maybe it's just awkward looking on the map?
Saw someone share on Reddit that Riot Fest is claiming they’re totally cashless this year. I’m going to laugh when they still charge the processing fee and don’t offer a way to pay with cash.
Yup. The email today has that info: "Riot Fest is cashless - credit card, debit card payment methods are accepted site wide."
Funny thing is I never got that email. But I did get the other one they sent about one of the days almost being sold out!
I always assume that it's going to rain for at least part of one of the days. But man, if a thunderstorm fucks shit up for one of the days I'm going to be really bummed. Especially Sunday. That's the one day that's loaded with rare gets, bands I've never seen, etc. That said, one of my favorite concert (not just Riot Fest, concerts in general) moments ever was watching Coheed in 2021 with the thunderstorms surrounding the festival. It was pretty epic and kinda the perfect band for it. (This is me trying to be positive about it all. Hah.)
I still think it was a bit irresponsible to let them keep playing through that, but it was amazing to watch.
I remember feeling conflicted about it at the time. But my general assumption is that there's somebody watching that sort of thing like a hawk in the back.. I also remember pulling up the map while it was happening and that storm (well the thunderstorm part of it) was like, just perfectly shaped to go around the festival rather than actually go over it. We really lucked out. But yeah, it was a really cool thing to witness. Kinda the perfect band for that sorta thing?
NWS not giving any percentages for likelihood of rain but showing a chance now for every day of the weekend. I don't necessarily trust any of the app services these days. Should start to come together late tonight, tomorrow morning as to how moist this weekend is going to be.
I've also been assuming that, given the size of the city, plugging "Chicago" in won't do you much good. I've been using the zip code for the park (60623).
