I'm kind of embarrassed that I didn't even think of the Ataris. Hah. They're the perfect size for that venue, just big enough that people would be stoked without causing a huge fervor, etc. That would make a ton of sense, TBH.
On Reddit, one person is saying a radio spot for the Q101 show has "Boys of Summer" playing in the background. And another is saying an ad read for it had the line "so slip a Black Flag sticker on your Cadillac and be there." So yeah. I think that pretty much sums it up. Haha. I might try to convince my fiancée to go since we'll probably be skipping them at the fest in favor of Pegboy/Lambrini Girls. Her response will be "hey loser, you're seeing them in October anyway" but it's worth a shot.
The Ataris, unfortunately, aren't enough to get me to Wrigleyville. At least there isn't a Cubs game.
For folks tracking the Blink setlists... Looks like "One More Time" and "Bored to Death" are both permanently off the setlist for this run (source: Mark's Discord via an IG account I follow). But it looks like they've slotted in "Dumpweed" which... Is fine, I guess, but definitely wouldn't have been the Enema song I'd have added. Haha. Curious to see if anything else shifts over the next two weeks.
“One More Time” is the song I actually really wanted to see, so I’m probably seeing even more of the Pogues than I’d planned.
I get why they removed One More Time. It seems like they’re aiming for a more fun, higher energy tour/set. So ending with that kind of drags the mood down. Kind of surprised they did away with Bored To Death though. I thought they’d bring Matt out every night to do that one
I keep forgetting that we're less than two weeks away! Getting the schedule so far in advance is throwing me (in a good way). That said, I'm really looking forward to the final blitz of information that's probably coming this week. The food vendors. The map. Maybe a few other little things... And whoever is replacing the Sex Pistols. It's also a little odd they haven't said anything legit about the Pistols. They're usually pretty quick with the announcement even if the replacement takes a few days to lock-in. Curious what's happening there, if somebody else might drop as well, etc. EDIT: Looks like they updated the poster on the web site. Congrats to the homies in the Bouncing Souls for their promotion!
No one added to the undercard for that day? Suppose they aren’t like Lolla and can keep someone local on deck just in case.
I feel they were pretty good at replacing bands in 2021, so Im surprised they didnt announced a replacement for the Sex Pistols yet
Not that I can see. But I don't think this necessarily means they won't replace them... This updated poster is just on the web site, hasn't been pushed out to socials, etc. And a vendor leaked an updated schedule this past week with three local acts (La Rosa Noir, Romel Sims, New Clear Fusion) that are yet to be announced. Like @Tifoil just mentioned they're actually pretty good about slotting replacements when larger acts drop. Usually within 1-3 days, as I recall... Slipknot for NIN, Rise/Anthrax/Gogol for FNM/Bungle/Bauhaus, and Wu-Tang for Die Antwoord are the bigger ones that I can think of. It always feels like they've got somebody of relatively equal "value" to fill in. There was that one year with Blink dropping and those Bauhaus shenanigans. But that was a double-whammy and two super touch and go scenarios at once... I also almost wonder if they might have spent a day or two trying to convince the Pistols to do that one show still with a replacement player which pushed things out some. Either way, I'll be stunned if they don't do some shifting based on this.
I’m really worried about you guys going to this fest. This thing between Trump and the city really seems like it’s going to come to a violent impasse like literally around riot fest. I’m gonna be keeping my eyes the festivities that weekend and hope you all have an awesome safe time
Interesting to see that the Sex Pistols still played South America over the weekend with Jay Bentley from Bad Religion on bass. According to Jay, the discussion for him to step in to started last Sunday (8/31). And the announcement didn't drop until Tuesday of last week (9/2). My guess is that the Pistols tried finding a replacement for the remainder of the tour dates and couldn't find a consistent one so they backed out. I think it's also being undersold that last week was a holiday week. People on the industry side (and maybe even the festival side, TBH) may have been out the week before/after that could slow the process of replacing an act of that size. And for Riot it would make more sense to hold on any announcements until this week even if they've got something fully locked in. Curious to see what this week brings...
