Somehow have never seen Dropkick before (they always conflict with someone I'd rather watch whenever they've played at Riot) so I'm pumped to finally knock them out!
Same here. I've never really even listened to them. Is Warrior's Code the place to start? I obviously know "I'm Shipping Up To Boston."
I'd say so, yeah! They also had a record come out earlier this year that they've been playing a good amount from, so maybe check that out too?
any quick dropkick primer should include their 2 best styles great punk songs with something to say: Workers song, johnny i harldy knew ya, warriors code, & the state of massachucetts bar singalong/party songs: going out in style, the boys are back, barroom hero, kiss me im shitfaced
As a casual fan of the band since the early 2000s... I think The Warrior's Code and The Meanest Of Times are fun places to start. Blackout is pretty strong too. The new album is pretty fun which is a nice change of pace as the last few have felt like a band operating on cruise control. And a lot of the older albums are decent enough if you're into the style but... They definitely have a bit of the same problem Rancid has where most of the albums feel like, 4-5 songs too long but at least there's a bit more diversity in style. If you want to saver yourself a bit of time, I think digging into recent festival setlists is the way to go. But they're a fun band to explore, regardless. And FWIW, they are amazing live! Being from Boston I find myself typically skipping them at festivals because I've seen them a ridiculous number of times but I'm looking forward to their set this year given how much I've been enjoying the new album.
Similar question for a different band: I've never gotten into Citizen but I'm planning on checking them out this year because they're on the stage right next to where the Souls go on and there's nothing else I want to check out so... Any album and/or track suggestions?
I think Calling the Dogs is their best but I know I'm on an island with that take, and most of the set will definitely be Youth and Life In Your Glass World.
Calling the Dogs for sure. I couldn’t stand their earlier music but Life in Your Glass House got me listening to them.
I've seen Dropkick twice this year for the first time in awhile and both times were great. At first I was hesitant that it would be way off without Al but still great. Ken is a really good frontman. I would say all the albums through Meanest of Times are solid all the way through albeit probably some filler tracks. They mostly played the new album + the hits when I saw them Sunday These are all good places to start ^ Citizen will probably play mostly Youth/Dogs/Glass songs + Jet but Everybody Is Going To Heaven I think is their best and they are doing it in full a couple weeks later so they might dust off one or two at Riot. Although 30 mins is really short so probably not
I think DKM always put on a good show. My biggest problem with their sets is that they usually play a lot from their newest album when there are older songs I would love to see instead. But if you are going in without really caring what they are going to be playing, you should have a great time.
Check out the hits from Youth and you’ll have a good time. Those are the songs that will get the biggest reaction at a festival
This holds up looking at recent set lists... But the one advantage to that this time around is that the new album actually kinda slaps. Haha. "Who'll Stand With Us?" and "Chesterfields & Aftershave" are both stone cold bangers and "The Big Man" is just pure concentrated fun (assuming you're like me and enjoy Fletcher from Pennywise lore LOL).
damn, someone else got selected with a name i submitted in the porta-potty contest, was hoping to score free ones since i need to go on the cheap this year. on top that, my yearly air bnb host informing me she doesnt have any rooms left, my ability to go to riot is shrinking daily, but its my own fault for starting to plan so late now that im back from my 40th bday trip.. "shudder to stink" was my submission.
I’m in disbelief. The name I’ve had in my back pocket for the last 3 years because I was so certain it was a winner (“Die Die Diarrhea My Darling”) isn’t even a votable option. I didn’t buy tickets. Winning this was my whole plan. Chat am I cooked?
Does everyone think that Weird Al’s crowd is going to be huge or am I just over estimating? I would like to stay for as much Alkaline Trio as possible and maybe sneak off for a few songs of Stiff Little Fingers, but I’m worried about the crowd being a pain to get through.
