Got my CostCo tickets for me and my wife for Friday and Sunday. At $105 each, per day, we saved $132 instead of buying direct from Riot’s site. Next I gotta get my Run Travis Run ticket!
In contrast, last year had 21 including the two shows that took place on Thursday before the festival.
Nothing interesting thursday Friday would do TFB but I'm assuming I'll want to do whatever is at Metro Saturday Trio Sunday Souls
nothing jumps out as must go, but trio/millitarie is a very solid option. and im a sucker for a mystery line up, haha. mary/buzzococks could be cool. i can skip souls as im seeing them a different date on same tour
None of these really do anything for me. Maybe I'll do Texas Is The Reason at Bottom Lounge to take out a conflict and go on Friday.
Oh, hot damn! If my partner weren't such an "early nighter" I would probably be hitting up that Alkaline Trio/Militarie Gun show. And if that Damned show were Thursday instead of Wednesday... Per usual they've put together some really fun bills but the rest are ones I'm not sure I could be convinced to leave the fest early/stay out late for. But love seeing what they've curated!
No Rilo Kiley show on Thursday like I was predicting, which is kind of a bummer. Feel like the 20th anniversary Metro show will either be Green Day or a bunch of older local punk bands. I'll probably be at AW20.
I think if I can swing the Alkaline Trio/Militarie Gun show and go Sunday as well, the sting of missing days might be a little lighter.
If I were going I would do Sex Pistols so I can see Weezer at the fest, and Texas is the Reason so I see Idles on the fest as well. Those 2 would be my bigger overlaps and the aftershows help on that
Interestingly, there's no ticket link for that 20th anniversary show... Really curious as to what this is, how it rolls out, when it gets announced, etc.
I was really hoping for a Rilo Kiley show at the Salt Shed but I guess it was not meant to be. Maybe they do a show a week later like The Postal Service did two years ago?
Also noting: Metro Chicago hasn't hyped anything about this show yet. And the Riot Fest socials and emails don't mention anything about it either. This kinda leaves me believing they just haven't fully locked it in yet... Rather than it being something really big like Green Day or whatever. My current thinking/tinfoil hat theory? The Lawrence Arms, Naked Raygun, and the Bollweevils. Three Chicago bands that readily represent the first three years of the festival. Maybe?
