Fri: fine, nothing crazy. i wish i didnt have to miss some of alk3 for weird al, but i mean, its weird al. Sat: weezer v sex pistols is annoying, cliffdiver deserves better than opening a stage AGAIN. Sun: TAI being so late on sunday is annoying but that whole stage is basically where I'll be all day (aside from a trip to see DHC)
So Friday and Saturday work out so perfectly for me (with one exception being the bouncing souls/james/marky Ramone conflict is tough) that they had to make up for it by Sunday being brutal I want to see every single band in this 3-4 hour chunk and that’s def not happening…
I always like seeing the hypothetical conflicts if I were attending. Honestly, this might be the first time that conflicts wouldn’t be bad for me. But: 1. ALK3 during Rilo Kiley and Weird Al sucks. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if I were to miss ALK3, but it’d still suck 2. SuperChunk/Helmet conflict stings. I’m not even going and my heart breaks for that lmao 3. Pegboy/Smoking Popes also sucks but would be manageable
I told my wife and she said "Definitely picking The Front Bottoms" Think this is our first major disagreement on a set since we've started going in 2016 lol. Sadly I didn't get to see the Copacetic shows earlier this year so that was my #1 album play haha
This ended up pretty good for me, surprisingly. I'll be going hard all day Friday then able to relax on Saturday before a very full Sunday. The bummer conflicts for me: Friday: Harm's Way vs Hold Steady (at least that's only a partial overlap), Weird Al vs Knocked Loose (probably going to end up just seeing Weird Al, but maybe I'll split it a little bit) Saturday: Honestly nothing terrible, maybe James vs Souls, but as long as I have a good idea of when James is playing "Laid" then I can easily split that Sunday: Actually has the most conflicts for me - Weakened Friends vs Footballhead, Ataris vs Lambrini Girls (this one really hurts), Jawbreaker vs Academy Is. But at least my worst case (TWY/TITR) worked out perfectly.
looks like they are using the same stage set up as last year with rise and radical sets being right after one another
Friday has some bad ones but easy to pick who I'm going to see. Wish weird Al was in the KL slot to make it easier to stay put over at the main stages for Trio>Al>Blink though Saturday MG vs. H2O sucks really bad. Don't know who I'll watch yet TFB vs. KP is probably the worst of the weekend. also don't know who I'll watch yet I expected sex pistols and weezer to conflict but bummed about it. Definitely watching Weezer Sunday Screeching weasel vs. microwave sucks. But leaning towards Weasel since its more rare and an album play Bad Religion overlapping with TWY also is a bummer. But I'll probably watch Suffer and then head over to TWY
This worked out pretty great for me. Some sets I'm bummed to miss but at least I can see basically my entire top 10 without conflict Friday: Rico Nasty > Senses Fail > Rilo Kiley > Knocked Loose > Blink 182 Saturday: Militarie Gun > Gwar > James > Knuckle Puck > Jack White > Weezer Sunday: The Ataris > Gym Class Heroes > Texas is the Reason > The Academy Is > Green Day
Conflicts that bummed me out were Alk3 vs. Rilo, Weird Al vs. Knocked Loose, Gwar vs. Helmet, Weezer vs. Sex Pistols and Linda Lindas vs. Ataris.
Not quite as bad as I was expecting but can see how some of these conflicts are brutal for others. There's a few partial/split sets that I'll have to do but... Nothing heartbreaking. Mostly. Hah. A few of the rougher ones are on Saturday for me: The Militarie Gun/Agent Orange/H2O overlap on Saturday feels like a personal attack. Dropkick Murphys and the Damned overlapping is annoying. And that Smoking Popes/Pegboy/Ataris cluster on Sunday is making me wince but it feels workable enough. At least from an album play perspective (e.g., that Pegboy album is only ~30 minutes so if I leave after that ends it'll be perfect to catch most of the Ataris). Other than that, though? The weekend is honestly far less clash-ridden than I expected! With a few acts I'm pleasantly surprised I can see that I thought I might have to miss! Excited to have a few drinks and take a first pass at mapping it all out tonight!
I could solve all my potential conflicts with a rule of ‘skip anyone you have already seen at riot fest’ Would have 4 big impacts: -Pogues over blink (this will probably be a half and half anyways) -James/marky split over bouncing souls -Lambrini girls over both Linda Linda & the Ataris -Inhaler over jawbreaker
Glad I can see Rilo Kiley, Weird Al, and blink-182. Otherwise Friday was going to be a little weak for me, but now with those 3 closing the day, there's enough I'm interested in and stuff I want to give a listen to before the fest that I should end up having a good day. Kind of amazed how well this all worked out for me. There's nothing particularly painful for me, and I'm going to get in a good mix of my favorites and artists that I probably wouldn't get a chance to see outside of a festival. Interesting that we're back to the setup of two pairs of alternating stages and one standalone.
You all are pointing out a few clashes I didn't even consider. Hah. Lambrini Girls overlapping with both the Ataris and Dance Hall Crashers is annoying. I might watch some Ataris, catch a few Lambrini Girl songs then pop over to main for DHC... Gonna be real curious to see how I feel about this as the summer progresses. Haha. But for now? I'm still feeling good about it. This is the most excited I've been about making a fest playlist in years!
Lambrini Girls are British so naturally will be touring in the states less frequently if that changes anyone’s decision
