Harms Way makes a good addition to whatever stage Knocked Loose plays. Also expect a Helmet/GWAR stage pairing
Here's the new admat... Only downside here is that it's just gonna encourage people to assume more and more bands will be added that clearly aren't.
a hardcore stage of: big ass truck -> Barbarians ->agnostic front-> Harms way ->touche armore -> knocked loose will be awesome
I've been getting super into Dance Hall Crashers the past couple weeks but I'm inevitably going to be disappointed by their conflict with one of TAI/Cobra Starship/Gym Class Heroes/Wonder Years.
big agree, DHC may be my number 1 priority on sunday. Lambrini girls, dune rats, and softplay are quickly climbing the ranks sunday as well.
DHC are easily my #1 for the entire weekend. And the video I saw from their first two shows back this past weekend, and the setlists, only drove that home further for me. GWAR is a solid add for Saturday because they're a "nice to see" but I won't be bothered in the slightest if I have to miss it. Hah. Don't really care about Harm's Way or Feral Tact so... Just means one or two fewer conflicts hopefully.
I was already pretty sure, but now I can confidently say I’m just gonna catch ADTR/Yellowcard on Friday and make Riot a 2 day trip this year
Recent Gym Class Heroes sets have been 1/3 Travie solo stuff so if I have to miss them for DHC I won't be horribly disappointed
I've been biting my tongue on this but... Gym Class Heroes were a pretty big band for me in college. So looking at those recent set lists and seeing that it's their "hit" singles plus a bunch of songs that lean away from the live band hip-hop stuff that made them unique (plus Travie's solo stuff) just made me not really care about seeing them at all. Really, the only FBR artists I can see myself intentionally seeomg this year would be Rico Nasty. And maybe the Front Bottoms but that's because my fiancee wants to check them out. The timing of this is gonna make the last five minutes of my therapy for the week a total fucking waste. LOL Stoked that it's coming, though!
Damn I just took a look at the most recent Gym Class Heroes set lists, and they're pretty disappointing. Here I am thinking I'll be seeing Queen & I, Papercuts, Taxi Driver, Shoot Down the Stars etc.
They played a TON near Cleveland when I lived there so I got really familiar with them. Lots of memories when it was Matt playing drums and Disashi playing guitar; I even have Disashi’s solo CD somewhere around here. When I moved out west to work at Smartpunk, I got to catch their Bamboozle Left set from the stage (even shot a few songs on a terrible digital camera back then). No idea what happened with that band but every time I see them on a festival I wish it was the whole band because it’s not like Travie couldn’t sell on his own name alone - “Billionaire” was an enormous song. I just wish they’d play Kid Nothing or something.
I've only seen them twice because they mostly toured with bands that stink on ice. LOL. But the two times I saw them it was pretty fantastic. Once was on the tour they did with RX Bandits and P.O.S. The other was like, Warped Tour 2009 or something? They were great both times, though. But seeing those set lists that feel like lazy "fuck you, pay me" festival-style sets is just such a bummer regardless of who is/isn't still in a band.
Anybody have any potential conflicts they're dreading? I'm gonna sit with it tonight and put together a "dread list" tonight because I hate myself.
I saw Travie do a solo set at So What?! in 2022 and it was perfectly fine. I've never been a HUGE GCH guy though, it was just kind of average.
Blink 182 v Weird Al v Rilo Kiley v Knocked Loose has my teeth chattering lmao IDLES conflicting with the FBR block on Sunday isn't a great feeling either haha
friday - im worried about all sorts of conflicts earlier in the day between the hardcore stage (big ass truck and barbarians), comedy stage (puddles and mac sabbath) and bands like shonnen knife & the tossers saturday - im already dreading dropkick vs some percentage of jack white and weezer. ive skipped dropkick everytime they play riot cuz they are a relatively easy band to see elsewhere in the year, so i always pick someone else, but was really wanting them this year... if they conflict with jack, they win, but "voyage to the blue planet" gimmick has me intrigued that i dont think i can miss it. also helmet vs bouncing souls would hurt me. heres a question i have i hope doesnt sound rude - OG punk bands - who's still got it, and who doesnt? pogues i think its too early to tell with no shane and sex pistols have a young singer - but what about: the damned, buzzcocks, marky ramone, agnostic front, agent orange, screeching weasel, zero boys, effigies..? i ask because last year i got pretty hyped all summer for the dickies, and was a pretty meh about their performance.
I think Screeching Weasel is still pretty good at festivals because Ben just shuts up and rips through songs. I wouldnt go to one of their headlong shows because I wouldn’t want to have to listen to Ben whine, but I’m up for seeing them at Riot. I enjoyed Buzzcocks last year, but I was pretty far back just hanging out so I can’t say how much of that was just me enjoying the songs. I have only seen Marky Ramone with Michael Graves and then with AWK, but I think it is always a good time singing along with the Ramones songs. But I probably wouldn’t choose it over another band I want to see.
