Must Sees blink-182 Knocked Loose Rilo Kiley Jack White Really Want to See Weezer The Academy Is... Alkaline Trio Weird Al If Time Allows Beach Boys Sex Pistols Gym Class Heroes Senses Fail The Ataris Honey Revenge Pretty light for me, which I'm fine with. I'm getting too old to be running around like a madman catching 12 sets a day. If I can get that top 8 conflict free then I'll be a happy camper.
I keep doing my list and am finding it real hard to distinguish between "must see" and "really want to see" this time around. I think I need to sit with it and digest it more. Usually this would give me anxiety but I just did a list of "artists I actively don't care at all about seeing" and that list is pretty beefy too. I'm guessing there's at least 1-2 stages each day that I pay little to no attention to.
Emo Phillips says on his website that he will be the all day emcee for Weird Al’s stage. I feel like that only makes sense if that is the stage that is by itself that was NoFX’s stage last year. We better not have a Blink vs Weird Al vs Sex Pistols conflict! That would be terrible for me.
Hah! That's what I said a few pages back! This makes a lot of sense. And yeah, I'm assuming it'll be that "NOFX World" stage. I think we'll get a better sense of where the Sex Pistols might be at when we see the dailies... I could see a situation where they are the band that goes on right before Blink. The good news is that by the time Riot happens we'll have a decent sense of what Al and Blink are both doing for sets which should help with planning! I've seen Al so many times that I don't need the whole thing but... Hot damn, am I hoping for "Dare To Be Stupid"!
The poster. Obviously it's not much to go on but last year the the direct support to the headliners for each day (the Offspring on Friday, St. Vincent on Saturday, and Rob Zombie on Sunday) were on the proper side of the poster. So it feels likely but... Also isn't 100%.
...I also just had a random thought. Do we even know what they're going to do as far as stages go this year? Do we think there's any chance they go back to the "older" style and bring back the Rebel stage? I'm realizing we're all just assuming it's going to be exactly like it was last year. But last year was just so weird... And they could just incorporate all the ChroniCon stuff throughout the older layout. I'm also doubtful the Quik Stop will be coming back. So... I dunno. This is me trying to manifest the old school layout with Rebel, I guess. LOL
I could have sworn I read somewhere that they were going to keep the Cabaret Metro stage and some of that stuff but I might be mistaken. Obviously they can’t do NOFX World again.
I can see blink/pistols/trio splitting the main stage, knocked loose splitting the other two with someone and then Rilo Kiley playing before weird al. beach boys are on Saturday.
just realized that Idles is playing Shaky Knees on Friday. So that makes even more confident that Sex Pistols will be on Friday.
Been getting into Delta Sleep. I’ve seen their name around a lot but never took the time to listen but these guys are great. Edit: Also, if all this everyone is saying means that Sex Pistols are Friday then that means there’s a lot of top billed artists that day… Blink, Weird Al, Sex Pistols, Alkaline Trio, maybe Rilo Kiley, Knocked Loose and a bunch more I haven’t mentioned. Seems pretty top heavy for that day.
I can see Sex Pistols and idles on Sunday with idles closing a side stage and the pistols before Green Day. Cause Sex Pistols on top of everything else Friday seems wild.
The last two years, they had the top two each day together on the poster. Since we already know the other two bands are playing the right day to continue that trend, I would be very surprised if Sex Pistols weren’t playing on Friday.
Oh yeah I’m not disagreeing at all, it’s just crazy how stacked Friday is going to be. I can’t wait to run around and plan.
Texas is the Reason just popped up on shuffle and I really dig what I’m hearing. Reminds me of 90s Smashing Pumpkins with an emo twist (listening to A Jack With One Eye).
Kinda nice to find ourselves in the "post-line up posting lull" a full ~2 weeks before the line-up is usually released this year! Meanwhile, the Riot Fest account is just continuously posting corporate parody logos.
Sound & Gravity multi-day music event set for Chicago, the latest from Pitchfork's Mike Reed It’s a start!
I'm really excited to see the daily breakdowns and stage designations this year. Because there's a bunch of different directions it could go and a lot of bands that could pair nicely. And some that could either support main stage or close out a second stage (Knocked Loose, All Time Low, Beach Boys, Dropkick Murphys). And I'm really curious to see what they do with Knocked Loose...
That was my thought. But who do they pair them with? There's just not a lot of heavy or hardcore toward the top of the poster. They might veer away from "theming" on that one but... My brain goes to it being one of the "second" stages with Senses Fail, Militarie Gun, Helmet, Touche Amore, and Big Ass Truck.
