Hold Steady aftershow at Cobra in 2014 where they played Almost Killed Me front to back was one of my favorite shows ever. Separation Sunday is 20 this year.

 

The Beach Boys without Brian Wilson is a waste of a spot and Mike Love doesn’t deserve to be playing any festivals that high up on the billing.

 

The lineup is great, but there isnt a big act for me to justify the trip to Chicago, specially after I went to Coachella this year.

If a miracle happens, I will see you all there tho!

 

Easily one of the worst Riot Fest moments ever for me. I wound up pressed against one of the metal gates/barriers around the carnival rides and was stuck next to some guy who kept yelling about how he was on 'shrooms so it was total bullshit that his girlfriend was making him watch Weezer and not the Flaming Lips?

Kinda ruined the vibe.

 

One of the beautiful things about the line-up this year is that, much like last year, there are plenty of bands I love and just as many that I'm fully comfortable skipping but wouldn't hate if I wound up seeing them.

So having the Beach Boys or whoever is kind of a 'win' for me, TBH.

 

The Beach Boys playing is kind of fun in theory, but yeah. Stop giving Mike Love a platform. Honestly kinda wish there was a different band in their slot

 

Got a hotel locked in and two Deluxe passes purchased. LFG!

Brian Wilson at pitchfork a few years ago was one of the worst sets ive ever seen

 

Somebody mentioned it a couple pages ago. They're one of a few acts I'm surprised aren't on here. I was really expecting LCD Soundsystem, the Go-Go's, and the Prodigy.

 

I was there too with my parents, truly awful. Might be the worst show I have ever been to?

 

haha yeah i'd def put it on the mount rushmore of worst shows ive seen, if not THE worst.

 

The headliners are solid and on brand for Riot Fest, and getting Jack White as a sub headliner is a nice pull for sure. I’m a bit whelmed on a lot of the undercard. There’s some acts here that I would enjoy seeing for sure (Rilo Kiley, Knocked Loose, Militarie Gun, Dehd, Lambrini Girls, Ovlov, Weakened Friends, Wishy…just off a glance) but nothing where I am like OMG I HAVE TO GO.

I’ll probably go for at least a day or two…but will wait and hopefully grab a cheaper ticket as it gets closer.

 

I’m still at least half-convinced those (plus VW) would have been the big names for Pitchfork.

 

Fuck it, just bought a ticket. Lets go!

 

I’m very surprised by no LCD

 

I am very pleased with no LCD.

 

Huh, yeah, no Deftones. Was banking on that over the UC show. Oh well.

 

Other than my orange juice container, no, haha.

 

Ah, here were the headliner clues all along, in this book I read to my kids like ten times a day.

 

Cool to see Marianas Trench on there, super underrated band

 

Only two bands with women in them in the top half of the poster (above Weird Al) and none in the top 6 is a bit rough. Usually they are at least a little better about this.

(and some folks on Reddit are not happy about this and honestly I agree)

 

They deserve no credit for supposedly being better, this is something they have always been bad at and deserve to be shit on for it.
