I'm kinda loving it, to be honest. We have a few artists that feel like pretty close locks and a bunch more that feel "likely" but are far from a sure thing. And a bunch of the perennial "will they ever play?" artists are still in the mix... Then you have the anticipation of the usual "oh shit, that's dope - I didn't even think of them" artists. But by and large the whole thing is going to feel like a surprise. I'm hoping they do a fun teaser tomorrow.
From the latest Mike Herrera podcast: "Allister's coming back, I think. They're gonna rip some gigs." It was a throwaway line when Mike and his manager were talking about friends of theirs who were going on tour this summer. But... Still. Would be a cool addition for Riot (that would pair nicely with Home Grown). They also delved into OpIvy a bit in the context of bands coming back who said they wouldn't ever. Here's what the manager said: "What did we hear, that like, OpIvy was never gonna play another show? And they've been taking offers... I'm not saying it's gonna happen but they've definitely looked into it. I'm not saying that it's happening. I'm saying that they've looked into it... Hey, is that OpIvy's logo on someone's web site? What does that mean? I don't even wanna know..." Almost definitely referring the Leave Home Booking site. I remember back in 2023 they popped up on that company's site and it was a whole thing. But it's interesting that they're still there and they bothered to include them in the updated site... Anyway, that's not directly related to Riot but thought folks might be interested because it's an annual discussion with this fucking band. LOL
Oh, I definitely prefer this to the lineup coming later and us having no clue when it will finally come. I hope we still get some hints or something tomorrow though.
Riot always has fun teaser videos, so I’d love something like that But I’m also open to it being a full surprise
I think the only thing is they’ve already released a bunch of hints so they may not. But either way I’m pumped about it.
They're a band I've always kinda figured would find their way to Riot eventually. And I was shocked it wasn't last year. But TBH, the NOFX stage sucked up most of the more traditional "pop-punk" bands last year so... We'll see what this year brings! I've noticed it's simmered a lot of the doom-posting and has people basically shrugging and saying "we'll see what happens" which is a decent change of pace. Weirdly, I was expecting a flurry of new tour announcements this week (some of which might shed a bit of light on things) but that hasn't happened yet either... Which means I'm even more excited to see how accurate some of the guesses and semi-locks talked about in this thread wind up being. Because there's a bunch of directions it can go. I'm particularly curious about some of the potential smaller "gets" that are possible now (Home Grown, Allister). And I'm always hopeful for more Chicago pop-punk. And with this being a big anniversary year, I'm weirdly optimistic about the possibility of the Methadones which would make me incredibly happy.. The ideal for me would be a video that teases 4-5 of the artists that we already kinda-sorta have figured out or been guessing on through the clues and tour dates... And 1-2 that we didn't see coming or think are really unlikely. Just to give us a taste of the surprises.
New Bouncing Souls tour dates dropping tomorrow and they dropped a new poster with blurred tour dates... Looks like theres two dates that could be/probably are Riot Fest? Circled in red.
That bouncing souls thing just got me amped. Q101 posted two video teasers for the announcement. So I’m guessing we’re getting something fun tomorrow.
I'm putting my money on two sets over two days. Probably album plays (a la Senses Fail in 2019)... Until we see the line-up that's what I'm assuming. After shows aren't ever really announced until way later. It would be pretty abnormal for a band to mess that one up.
Yeah it would be weird (but interesting) if we got aftershows this early too. Didn’t they do a 2-night run in select cities last year where they played 2 albums a night? Maybe Riot recruited them to do that
It was actually 3-night runs! Two nights of album plays and one acoustic night. They actually did Chicago as part of that run last March.
Normally, I'd say I would be fine with whatever... But the last two times I saw the Souls it was shorter "greatest hits"-style festival sets. So I'm in the album play camp as well on this one. My ideals would be Hopeless Romantic and S/T (just because HISMSV is about 30% of their set on a regular tour, anyway). Watch, though. After all this it'll be them messing up and it's actually an aftershow. Or it's not album plays at all and instead, an "early years" set on day 1 and a "latter years" set on day 2 or something. LOL
well, they really started their Album play kick for the 10th anniversary with having 10 album plays. So maybe they have been saving them up for this year.
I think "album play" tours in general have lost their luster since about that time as well. Mostly because the majority of the truly "essential" ones have been done 2-3 times over now. And now when they get them they tend to be part of a bigger tour which just kinda makes it feel a bit less special... Still a nice bonus. And I think 2022 and 2023 actually had some really great ones.
It also doesn't help that people have tired of them and see them as the money grab they are. Same thing with announcing "farewell" tours.
