im very excited even though this is the first year where i still dont know if im going yet. i normally buy instant early bird, but i turn 40 in july and am taking my dream trip, so wont know how much that sets me back til it happens so ill probably decide in early august.... on the plus side, the woman who's booth i help with each year said this year she thinks she can put me as one of her official employees (if im able to go at all) so i may not even have to buy a ticket, just lodging.
My excitement has really ramped up. The only time it's come in April was 2017 which was a pretty banger line-up with maybe the biggest Riot Fest surprise of all-time for me (Jawbreaker). And the fact that they're announcing so far in advance means they really have everything locked down and buttoned up... Just picked up on something about the new deal they have with the Park District too: "30% of total event-related revenue will be reinvested into Douglass Park, opposed to the 10% from previous years." Love seeing that kind of stuff!
Deal is through 2027 with option to extent to 2029 Riot Fest to remain in Chicago's Douglass Park through 2027
Man, I think we missed the part where we had good predictive mock ups of the lineup. Like, we got the ridiculous one from Reddit early on but I feel like we skipped over anyone making anything realistic. Those were always kind of fun
Yeah! Man, that had me going through some kind of weird April Fools joke inception-esque “joke within a joke” loop.
Anywho, would love to see PVRIS playing White Noise in full but they have that sinking ship of an LP tour their on. That’s a big wish list on the undercard for me.
Yeah I haven't seen any mocks in a while which is why I asked about undercard, because usually the (decent) mocks have realistic undercard options on them.
Didn’t check to see if any of these bands are out via radius clause or other shows that weekend. Just played by intuition baby
If Deftones, Helmet, and Glassjaw don't all play on the same day that would be a bummer. Haha. Same with Green Day and Jawbreaker.
My "could actually maybe happen" pipe dream this year is Dance Hall Crashers. I'd put it at a 5% chance of likelihood because they've said Warped is all their doing... Not because of exclusivity just because that's all they want to do. But learning that Riot didn't book that OpIvy cover set until after it was announced for Supernova last year... I dunno. There's a chance they said that and shit changed behind the scenes when more money got thrown their way. I'm usually pretty hedgy about shit like this ("eh, it'll never happen") but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that one. EDIT: Was also going to ask if anybody else has any of these "unlikely to happen" but it could definitely maybe happen if things fell in line perfectly behind the scenes?
I didn’t think it was likely enough to put in my mock. But the fact that Banner Pilot opened the Minnesota show of the NOFX farewell tour gives me hope that they’re open to being a band again if anyone offers them enough money or a cool opportunity. Aw shit. I really should’ve checked for that
week after riot in st. louis. last year we shared 1 act in Beck...but most bands here who would be good for riot were all there last year (sublime, PE, the hives.) though, The kills & the pharcyde would be awesome
