their ascent has been fascinating. i was certain they were well cemented in their 'popular but will be 2nd banana" spot to bands like system, korn, & slipknot that they had been in for the last 15 years or so, and to see them slap on rocket skates like that out of nowhere, specifically with no new mega hit, truly wild
Yeah it’s quite insane. Their last album was 5 years ago and they went from small amps/large theaters straight to arenas. They deserve it
Not even bands like Korn and Slipknot... The last time I saw them they were opening for Avenged Sevenfold in the same venue they sold out here in Boston last night. That night, the place was roughly 50% full when they played. It's really awesome to see and while I'm wondering if they can sustain it? I also don't think they have to. They've sustained pretty well as a band without it and have always had odd career ebbs and flows in terms of venue sizes they booked and played.
I definitely am really curious to see where they go from here. I could see them sustaining it for a bit longer once their new album finally drops. But yeah, it is really interesting. Before they re-blew up this decade, I think they were one of those weird “middle ground” acts that could both larger and smaller venues depending on the situation/lineup. Like, in 2015, they did that co-headliner with Incubus which did larger amps. Then a couple months later I saw them (my only Deftones show, sadly) play a 1,100 cap theater on their own. Then the following summer they headlined the Greek in LA which is 6,000 cap, I think? Then the next summer, they did that co-headliner with Rise Against which was large amps again. But the 2020’s have only solidified they are back to being a full-blown, big venue band
i got pit tickets to that tour with Rise Against on Groupon for 20 bucks. I just sold two floor tickets for their tour right now the other week for $300 each
I won two tickets to Movements last month the day of the show, put them on Stubhub, and made $70 for the pair. Took me 10 minutes lmao.
Who are we thinking for non-headliner/undercard acts this year (specifically ones that haven’t played in a while if ever)? Edit: Aside from those already locked in from tour dates.
Got a feeling we’re getting The Academy Is… for an album play. They’ve been teasing it for a while now.
Give me all of the 2015 pop punk album plays. neck deep. Knuckle puck. Tssf, twy, fys… Id also love Peripheral Vision and Nonstop Feeling but I know neither of those are happening.
i think the biggest news out of all this is that riot isn't going anywhere and they locked down a multi year deal with the park district for douglass park and we can finally end that speculation once and for all for a few years
I would die for all of these… maybe this time Mark would actually come out and sing December like they tried to get him to back in 2019…
