I could definitely see Willie Nelson. I'm not sure I'd consider the rest as "Riot" artists, though, TBH with the exception of Waxahatchee and Wilco. And, from what I know of them, Billy Strings might be a fit? FWIW, Wilco is only doing three dates in early August so I wouldn't rule them out but it won't be because they're on this one!
Yeah, I was only really looking at the artists playing the few dates before Riot weekend. I've made a case for Bob Dylan as a Riot artist for years. He's got the legacy and history that they like in older artists, would draw a lot of people who wouldn't otherwise come (my dad, for one), and might even do something incredibly funny like play an hour of Sinatra covers instead of any of his hits.
Yeah, I guess I would have pegged him more in the "probably wouldn't do it" camp over "not a good fit." He's definitely a fit! But I just don't see him in this current era wanting to do something like Riot. 10-15 years ago? Most definitely. I just don't see it now. I feel the same way about Dolly Parton. Definitely a fit for a multitude of reasons just doesn't feel very likely...
I think them flying in for a one off Wisconsin show makes it more likely, but also I’m a big dummy who loves the fun of speculating. So if I’m wrong I’ll gladly eat the dirt. Update! I forgot shaky knees is that weekend.
Bourbon & Beyond lineup drops tomorrow. Not likely to be much crossover, but Beck played both last year.
Tomorrow would be 6 days from that groundhog day tease. So I gotta imagine if there's anything coming tomorrow they'll be vague about it today. LOL Not banking on it but... Who knows. Hah.
Also: According to their IG story, Home Grown has more shows to announce this year. Could definitely see them doing Riot as an early afternoon act (as well as Four Chords).
outside the obvious talking heads, Dead Kennedys, and op ivy this and bloodhound gang have been my two realistic reunions.
Given the $$$ they've been offered and turned down I don't ever see the Talking Heads doing Riot Fest. And I don't ever see Jello doing anything with DK again so... Not banking on that. Hah. But I think the Sex Pistols with Frank Carter are very likely this year. And I am definitely on the Operation Ivy hype train for this year too! But that's been me every year for the last 3-5 years so... Home Grown and Bloodhound Gang are on the lower end of the tip as far as reunions go but would definitely be strong gets for certain people (like me LOL).
Bands that could crossover: Jack White, Cage the Elephant, Third Eye Blind, Pixies, TV on the Radio, Waxahatchee, Dashboard Confessional, Guster, Iron & Wine, Julien Baker & Torres, The Hold Steady, Switchfoot https://forum.chorus.fm/attachments/img_5174-jpeg.123346/
Obviously hoping for Rilo Kiley. The Hold Steady, TV On the Radio, Dashboard, and Switchfoot would all be cool/reasonable crossover acts. JB/Torres feels like Lolla to me but I wouldn't complain if Riot got them. Jack White as a Riot headliner feels possible, but I hope they go for something more interesting. I'd like to see Noah Kahan at some point, but I don't think Riot would go for him.
I also want Guster, Goo Goo Dolls, Spin Doctors, 3EB, etc but Riot hasn't shown a ton of interest in that realm before.
Jack White headlining would be sick. Since The Raconteurs played before, I sure they could work something with him Also, I think CTE are out since they hinted a few months back they’ll be playing Lolla
No shade to him but Jack White’s days of headlining Lolla are over but he could definitely still headline Riot, or even co-headline.
Heads up, some of these are summer amphitheater tours that might already have some bands ruled out (i.e. Blues Traveler / Gin Blossoms / Spin Doctors, Goo Goo Dolls / Dashboard)
